Oslo 28 february was the day the Psyco Circus cam to town and I was there in Oslo Spektrum to watch the elefants, the wild animals and the clowns. I also attended the seond show Kiss gave in Oslo during the reunion tour in 1997.
All in all it was a great show. The band seemed in good shape and the sound was great from my point of wiew. The classics was there of course with "Deuce" played earlier in the set than some of the North American dates. There was ca. 8000 in the crowd which is very good in norway. Paul Stanley never seems to amaze me. He still sings fantastic. It's amazing that he is able to keep his voice like that if you campare him to ather singers turning 50. He's still the worlds greatest front man i think. He changed guitars quite often during the show, perhaps due to a sponsor dealwith Wasburn? Does anoyne know why he changed from his Ibanez PS-10? Being a guitarist myself,I sure would like to know. Gene was also very good, and had an almost bluesy feel to his singing. His bass sound was also ver distinct and clear, a good thin for a song like "Detroit rock city". ANother thing that amazed me was Peter's drum solo. A catchy kind of thing with great musicality, He really showed off his Jazz influences in this one. Ace's guitar solo was kind of boring. It didn't really lift until "Also sprach Zarathustra" which was very cool. he had problems with his smoking guitar, and he had to get help from his roadie. There was a lot of roadies on that stage that night and that was kin of annoying.
The opening song "Psyco Circus" didn't really work I think. Paul did a great job, but the studio version is so overproduced, so the band has a hard time reconstruction it on stage. They didn't quite manage it. The band was not really nailing it until "Let me go rock'n roll" which they nailed. From here it' was great with a few exeptions.
I really can't understand why they still choose to pla "King of the nightime world" I think it's an average song, but no calssic , like "She" "Strutter" or "I stole your love" for that matter. I also think that Ace's slos should have been shorter. The guy is a great player but doesn't have two hundred dusins of gadets to play on. The set list should have been more different from the reunion tour. It was much if the same songs and much of the same show, wit both Paul and Gene flying around and all that. I would like to see something new this time around.
But enough of that, still a great Kiss show"
PS. I went to a pre-show arrangement and who did I see there ohter than Bruce Kulick, a real gentleman.
