He told me I had never been to a concert before. He was right. Don't misunderstand, I'd seen other bands play, but KISS is not just some other band...they're the gods of rock.
We left our house about 3pm saturday afternoon, and arrived at the First Union center in Philly at about 5. After wandering around the building 2 or 3 times, we found the bar entrance. We had a drink, and while we were standing in the hall waiting to go to our seats we could hear KISS doing their sound check inside the staduim. They played Rock n' Roll all Night, and Psycho Circus. For me that was really exciting, since I had never seen KISS live before. In fact, I am a brand new KISS fan. For the past six months, I've been living wih my boyfriend, hearing nothing except how great KISS is and how most other bands suck compared to them. I heard CD's, I heard tapes, I thought "mmmmm yeah thats OK", but the concert is what blew me away and turned me into a KISS fan for life. After we finally got to our seats (which were very good by the way...only a few rows up off the floor and a little to the right of the stage), we sat through the opening band, Econoline Crush. I was too excited to see KISS, so I wasnt really paying attention to them, but for the little while I did listen, they didnt sound too bad to me. After they were on, there was about a half hour break and then KISS came on. They played Psycho Circus off the new album first, and it sounded great. In fact, everything sounded great. I had read some other reviews where some of the theatrical components didn't work, but everything worked fine that night. The only problem that I noticed was with the 3d screens...sometimes the effects worked really well, and other times it just looked like a blurry picture. All the band members did a little solo bit...Ace with his guitar on the song Into the Void, Peter did a drum solo that really impressed me, Gene played God of Thunder and flew up above the stage and did the blood thing, and Paul flew out into the crowd to sing Love Gun. My favorite part was the encore...Peter came back out and sang Beth. He sounded really good, and I thought that was a good place to put that song in the set. The last song they played was Black Diamond, and then we all fought our way out of the parking lot to go home. I've gotta say...its true. I had never seen a concert before. I can't wait until they come back.
