KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Rodney Hrvatin
For the 7000 people that came along it was an awesome night. It's tough to know where to begin except, perhaps, to say that the Screaming Jets, the support act, were the best support act Kiss has had down under and they-re 20-minute set was absolutely brilliant.

However, once the lights went down and the legendary line was spoken, all bets were off. Kiss exploded out of the blocks powering through "Detroit Rock City" and "Deuce" (Paul forgetting the words funnily enough in the former). Kiss trotted out some of their usual live numbers such as "Firehouse","Let Me Go Rock'n'Roll" (complete with Eric's "Kiss loves you" speech) "Cold Gin", "Love Gun" (complete with Paul's crowd bit), "I Love It Loud", "Shock Me" (Ace's best intro: Paul said "Ace is gonna introduce this next song of his",Ace says "Guess!"),"100,000 Years", "Shout It Out Loud", "Heaven's On Fire", "Lick It Up" and "Psycho Circus".

Some of the more surprising stuff was "Talk To Me" and an encore jam which included bits of "She", "Parasite" & "C'mon and Love Me. The encores were "I was Made For Lovin' You" and, of course "Rock'n'Roll All Nite" (the latter with Gene's made-up words "I did some drugs so now I'm crazy".

For me though, the night was capped by a powerful performance of "God Of Thunder". Gene's blood-spitting was awesome and Eric's solo was amazing, far better than Peter Criss could EVER have done. The other highlight was "Black Diamond" which featured Paul doing a medley of solo numbers before the start of the song (these were "I Still Love You", "Hard Luck Woman" and "Shandi") The band had a ball on stage and even though Gene looked tired and exhausted, he gave it his all. The best performance on the night was Eric Singer. I feel very priviledged to have seen Eric with Kiss again. he drummed as if his life depended on it and gave it his all. His power and style behind the kit was a major spark to Paul, Ace and Gene.

True to their word, No-one left the Kiss show feeling short-changed except for the merchandise which was woefully expensive, I mean $45AUD for a program???? Give me a break. $15AUD for a poster? Puh-lease and don't get me started on the shirts!

However, Kiss will sadly be missed down here, and their final show was, musically, marginally worse than their '95 show and visually better than their '97 reunion show. A long night but oh so enjoyable
