Just wanted to drop a line and let everyone know of the events at last nights show at the Pond of Anaheim. After seeing the VH1 broadcast, I was expecting to see the video documentary at the beginning of the show, but no dice. The show started out with DRC and stuck pretty close to the setlists with the exception of no Into The Void and I Stole Your Love. The band was pretty energetic throughout the evening and I personally thought that Ace's guitar playing sounded great! During God Of Thunder, when Gene was on his way down from singing in the lights, he got stuck about 5 feet above the stage. He kicked his legs and swung his arms about until someone finally noticed and a couple of roadies came out with a box so he could step down. I feel sorry for the guy in charge of that prop! Paul handled the vocals while Gene was "just hanging out!" During Do You Love Me it seemed to me that they sang some of the song out of order (it was then they showed a video on the screen during the song of the band through the years that was very cool). From the "Now What?" file, as if Gene's prop malfunction wasn't enough, Paul went into his "I wanna come out to the people" rap right before Love Gun, he talked about how this would be his last time to come out and see the people of Anaheim. He got hooked up into his flying contraption, was raised up, went about 40 feet over the crowd and stopped! He just sat there while the rest of the band was already playing Love Gun. Gene attempted to handle the vocals and obviously didn't know the words as well as the crowd. He sounded like he was making it up as he went along. They finally lowered Paul into the crowd where he was helped back up onstage by security, and after an apology they started over. I joked to my wife that I should have brought a resume, since there would be plenty of job openings with the KISS crew after this night! Now even with the glitches, KISS still puts on the best show ever! To see them for what will be one of the last times (I'm also going to the June 3rd show) was kinda a wierd experience, to hear them all say thank you for the love and support over the years was like having a lifelong friend say, "I love you man, we just can't hang out anymore." I will miss these friends very much, as much as I complain about ticket and merchandise prices, setlists, etc., KISS has and always will be a very important part of my life. They say thank you to us for everything, well I say "THANK YOU" to them for everything as well. See you all at The Blockbuster Bowl on June 3rd...
