KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Brian F
I have to admit that seeing KISS has always been a primal thing for me - more than any other concert, KISS allows me to forget everything else for those 2 hours and harken back to my younger days when I first became aware of KISS. I was disappointed when they didn't play here on the Psycho Circus tour, (I guess they could have played Lakewood?), but that's ancient history. On to the concert.... Ted Nugent was entertaining enough for an opening act, I've seen him 3 different times now in various incarnations and his energy never seems to wane. He played his biggest hits and Atlanta resident and former front man Derek St. Holes joined him for an awesome version of "Stranglehold". Ted's band sounded better as a 4 piece during that song he should have had a 4 piece band for the tour.

There were a couple of WHO songs then a few Van Halen songs and the KISS curtain dropped around and completely hiding the stage. The audience went nuts. KISS started playing DRC while they were dropping from the ceiling. The set list was the same as everywhere else but who cares?? They know that we love those songs and they are able to play them as well as entertain us on stage. I liked the non makeup songs - they added their own touches to them and made them their own. They are KISS songs and this was a KISS concert - nay sayers get over it. Paul did the first few verses of I Still Love You which was cool. Ace messed up a little bit on Shock Me he missed a verse. Ne nailed the solo on that song. They did a rocking version of 100000 Years one of my favorites they let loose on that one. Paul remembered that they played at GA Tech then the Electric Ballroom and the Omni. I think he fainted on stage at the Electric Ballroom in 74 from the heat.

They all sounded and looked great. Peter was using the triggers for some songs but he let loose on a few of the songs and really played well, better than on the Reunion tour. Ace played well - he did a relatively short solo without the snippets from the other songs he's played other places. Gene was in fine form - his voice was strong and he played well. He was into the Demon last night and roamed the stage like the old days. Paul is and always will be the ulitmate rock star - the stage was made for him and he doesn't dissapoint. His voice never sounded better and he knows how to work the crowd. I'll take my wife to see him doing "Phantom". He seems a natural for that part.

People, do yourself a favor and see the show - I've seen them 4 different times starting with the "Lick It Up" tour and can say this was the best show. KISS will live forever through us. They know it and we do too. Good Luck to the members of KISS in the future.
