KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Taylor, Ashley, & Scott
Taylor (Age 6): The drooling blood was the best. The fireworks were nice, awesome. The show was great, except when I was asleep (final three songs before the encore--Dad). "Shout It Out Loud" was the best. KISS is my favorite band. I hate the Spice Girls.

Ashley (Age 8): It was the first band I've ever seen. And it was the best band in the world. The fireworks were awesome, especially when Ace hit the light. My favorite songs in the show were "Shout it out Loud", and "Love Gun". I like "Rock & Roll All Night" because it had the most fireworks, and the confetti cannon. That was the best night of my life.

Scott/Dad (32): This was better than both the reunion and PC tours. More fireworks, more stage, more lights. This is what my sons noticed. The playing was tighter than on any previous tour I've seen.

I didn't take my boys for Skid Row (time restraints) or Terrible Ted. My boys do not know anything of Xenophobia, and I'd like to leave it that way for a few more years. I recall that when Kiss became a family band before (79-80) they booted Sammy Hagar off their tour for profanity, and I'm dissapointed that they would have Ted on tour with them now.

That being said, the look on my boys faces when the lights went down was priceless. The anticipation in their voices as they shouted allong with the refrain "You wanted the best.." was magical. They were on their feet from The lights going down until "Love Gun". Then were back on their feet for the final two and three songs, respectively. They sung allong to "Detroit", "Shout it out Loud", "I Love It Loud", "Rock & Roll All Night", "Beth" and especially "Do You Love Me?" As we walked out, I carried my six year old, and my eight year old said "Dad, this has been a perfect day."

So not only was this the best KISS show that I have ever seen (will the 30th anniversary tour top this?) I enjoyed it more because it was the first rock concert that my kids ever got to see, and it was KISS.

One final note to Ace:

My boys have been hearing the legend of the KISS show since they were tiny. They have asked repeatedly when they were going to be old enough to see KISS. As this is (in principle) the Farewell tour, I thought I'd better bring them to this one. They knew the songs and the effects. They counted down the number of sleeps for weeks. When your guitar floated away, and the spotlight did not follow it, your comment was "Oh well, it doesn't matter." I am a graduate student, and to give my kids this magical night cost me what I make in a week. When My little Taylor looked at me and said "Daddy, I can't see where the guitar went". I'd like to suggest to you that it does matter. It matters very much.
