Well, Hmmm. It really was a GREAT show. I haven't seen the band in a
LOOOOONG time. It was really great to get to see Kiss as it was supposed
to be. The big production, the make-up, all the great songs. I'm sure
everyone out there is familiar with the set list now. I would have liked
to have heard them do "Unholy", "I Just Wanna" "War Machine" "Forever"
and a few others, but hey, you can only play so long. And as Alex Lifeson
once said "If you played EVERYBODY"s favorites, you'd be on stage all night."
But it was GREAT to hear and see them. Peter was really enjoying himself.
It made me hearken back to the days when he really inspired me as a drummer.
He really has seemed to go all out for this. He was really mugging it up for
the camera. My wife got a kick out of Gene, she has never seen Kiss before
and she really got a kick out of seeing him when he would stand and pose
and then gesture for the audience to appluad. The video interaction was
incredable. Even tho I was not on the front row, I felt like I was. it was
awesome to actually see them. Ya know, ya really have to sit BACK to fully
enjoy all this. I mean, I know that if you are in the FRO?NT row, you can
get up close and actually become part of the show, but the whole production
seems to be geared toward the back. Gene really was into it last night.
He was the Demon, the god of Thunder, fire-Breathing maniac that he always
was. Just not "Quite" as quick as he used to be. I noticed that when they
did the flashback videos during "Do You Love Me." But he's still magnificant
to watch up there. I had never got to see him fly before, (I missed the
dynasty tour and he didn't fly on the Creatures tour) so that was COOL!
I think that God of thunder was one of the highlights of the show. As well
as Love Gun when Paul went out over the audiance. Technically there didn't
seem to be any problems. the sound was great, all the stunts worked right,
all the vid screens and lights and pyros went off right. Paul was really
in GREAT form. he is truely the Ringmaster. He worked so hard up there
controling the crowd. And I gained a new respect for Paul last night.
he really worked hard at holding the band and a lot of the show together.
Ace was having some problems. I don't know what was wrong, but for the
first half of the show, he was not playing in time to the music, he got
lost during "Shock Me", paul had to come in and sing Ace's part for him
after Ace's guitar solo. Ace started looking around like "what's goin on?"
After "Shock Me", he just went up on the riser by Pete and stood there and
played during the next song. I noticed him talking to a roadie after that
and it got a little bit better. But all night, Ace was late coming back on
stage, I noticed him sitting down on the side at one point, he looked very
tired. He wasn't sloaching around on stage, he was really playing his heart
out, but I guess he was having a bad night. But Paul took on the added
burden and carried it all thru the show. He seemed to try and get Ace
back into it several times. He always referred to him as "Mr. Wonderful"
the two of them exchanged Hi-Five's. Gene and Ace seemed more interacting
tho. Gene and Ace would strike the typical pose of Ace playing his blistering
leads and Gene would run up and give him the toungue. In spite of Ace's
problems tho, the band was GREAT. From the opening Detroit Rock City, to
the ending chorus of Rock and Roll All Night, it was GREAT! I'm glad
that I got to go see them one last time. After the show, my wife and I
equated our cars personalities to the members of Kiss. My Camaro is
definately Paul (a center of attention) my Javlin would be Ace (quircky
but very cool) and her little truck would be Peter. Nuthin Fancy, but
right on target, dependable, and lots of fun. but she wants her next truck
to be Gene. Formidable, and so scary that it frightens our neighbors
rottwiellers when she drives up and loud enough to break their windows.
