My Boys. That is what I have been calling KISS ever since I first saw them at Lewis University in Lockport, Illinois in 1975. And as the curtain dropped last night in Chicago, and the greatest show on earth began, the first thing I said was "There's my boys!". From the beginning cords of Detroit Rock City to the final one of Rock 'n Roll All Night, Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter were still the masters. Although, they do not move with the agility they once did back on that historic Kisstory night in May of 1975, they were still the generals of the Kiss Army and they came and conquered. Throughout the years (especially during the make-up days then and now) they always appeared larger than life. Last night was no exception. As I sat in the back of the arena with my wife and son of 8, I felt somewhat fulfilled knowing that I have one more show (Milwaukee on Friday the 19th) to see. Watching my boys doing what only they can do and seeing my son's eyes light up with excitement, I knew that the ending of this thing called KISS is going to be OK. Last night's show was somewhat the same as the reunion tour show and that is what I expected. With the massive stack of amps to the mirror ball, the show of shows was just that. Paul was the lead spokesman and did a fine job of relating this final tour to the crowd in a heartfelt rock and roll fashion. Peter with his driving beat kept the crowd pounding. (Although he was late getting back to his drums during one song.) He sang Beth the best I have ever heard. Ace with his patented sway and sucking in his cheeks, played hard and let us know that he will survive and be a 2000 man. And Gene, still after all these years, can control a crowd with a hard thundering cord or a flap of his tongue. As he stalked the stage and pounded his arms, the crowd knew that he has always been the top general of the Kiss Army. As the 2 hour show moved like an army through Atlanta in the Civil War, the things that the fans came to see was all there. All the lights, the music, the fireworks as only they can do was there and yes, them. The four men who has taken us on this roller coaster ride we call KISS. Them, Ace, Gene, Paul and Peter after all these years giving all they had last night was the climax of what only they could be. The Best! I would like to thank Kiss Asylum for all their hard work in keeping the soldiers of the Kiss Army informed and entertained. And on behalf of my family, my brother Bill who took me to my first KISS concert, my sister Rhonda, who looks for KISS things for me, my friend Steve, who is reaping the rewards of the return to the makeup and all the thousands of KISS fans, THANK YOU Gene, Ace, Paul and Peter for being a part of our lives and our memories. As the four of you part at the end of the tour and move on to fill a different part of your lives, you four will always be "My Boys".
