Tonight was my fourth KISS show at the Allstate Arena (formerly the Rosemont Horizon) and I have to give compliments to the folks at Allstate. They have made improvements that really seemed to clean the place up. Enough about the venue, though. On to the show...
Skid Row sounded great. The band was on the money and the new lead singer, in my opinion, fills Sebastion's shoes just fine. Uncle Ted rocked. I was very impressed with his guitar skills. I have never been a big fan and have never owned a Nugent album. That will soon change, though. He made another fan at tonight's concert. The band sounded tight and, frankly, sounded just as good as Skid Row even though Nuge only sports a 3 piece band.
On to Kiss... Our seats were 16 rows from the stage, just slightly between center stage and Ace's platform. Very good seats. The band and crew are still playing the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again", to drop the main curtain. Watch for it at Daltry's big scream towards the end of the song. Kiss came on right on time at 9:00pm. They opened with "Detroit Rock City" as they descended from the rafters. Very cool. I found no flaws during the show and I watched very closely. The last show in Chicago (Psycho Circus) had some obvious flaws in the timing, pyro, etc. Tonight, though, everything was on the money. Gene flew without a problem, as did Paul. Paul flew right directly over my head while enroute to his 'in-the-audience' stage, which did not suck. I have read previous reviews that mentioned Peter or Ace not being into the show and playing mediocre. This was untrue at tonight's show. Everybody laughed and joked and really seemed thrilled to be up there performing. It was hard not to get a bit emotional during "Do You Love Me?", the old footage was awesome. "Beth" and "Rock and Roll All Nite" were also tough. Also, before Paul started into the "Black Diamond" intro, he played a verse of "I Still Love You". Even Paul seemed ready to lose it at this point. Even though it hurts to say good-bye, I wouldn't change a second of the show. It was a fitting farewell in that, as they've continued to do again and again throughout the years, KISS once again out-did themselves. Thanks guys...
