This was the best Kiss show that I've ever seen. Period. I had a great location, four seats up in front of Paul's riser in the middle of the arena. Plus, I took some nice pictures from there! Just a short note on Uncle Ted, he added a few details from the Toledo Savage Hall show: He came out on his Buffalo, and also, for an encore played Fred Bear in front of the campfire. That was cool. Getting the show was difficult, though. A fuel tanker flipped over on I-75 and shut down traffic for miles back. It came right during rush hour traffic to get to the show. All of us dedicated Kiss fans were immobile, that is until some of us took it upon ourselves to find other routes off the highway. Hey, you've gotta' do what you've gotta' do for KISS!
Now, if any of you read my Savage Hall review, you would know that I was pretty critical of my guitar hero Ace. Well...he deserved it! Ace is my favorite, and I learned a lot from him on the guitar, but he was horrible that night. And I still think he was drunk, too! He wasn't involved at all during that night and sounded the worst out of all the shows that I've ever seen them. I was pretty disgusted. So this is why I am proud to announce that the real Ace Frehley arrived at the Palace. He was really on, and I could tell that by the second solo, Deuce, he was going to have a great night. Every solo during the show was dead on, and played with aggressive feeling. He might have flubbed a couple of times, but rarely. His main solo was the best that I've heard him do, including his solo tours. When he talked into the mike, he was assertive, clear, and sang great. Kudos, Ace.
As for Gene, he was in great character as usual. He wasn't as great on vocals as he was Toledo, but he was damn good. He was very active prowling the stage too. I still think it was an awesome idea to put I Love It Loud into the set list. The others I could do with or without.
Paul was excellent. He was stronger and more energetic than Toledo. And, to boot, his flying act worked this time. He flew right over my right shoulder. Peter was steady, but not as perfect as Savage Hall. But he seemed happy, and quick with his fills. During Beth he seemed genuinely choked up in front of us. And why not, there are only a handful of cities that are real emotional turn-ons for Kiss, as far as some special memory or turning point for them. N.Y and Detroit are in that top bracket. They definitely played their hearts out for us, and if there wasn't anyone in the audience that couldn't feel that or understand how much this show meant to them, well, they were either too drunk, too young to remember any kind of history of the band, or are just idiots. But anyways, I'm glad they put on an incredible show to remember them by. I've never seen so much stage effects and conffetti thrown into their show. It was an awesome night!
Thanks Paul, Gene, Ace and Peter. You guys proved, once again, that you are the Hottest band in the world, and no other band will come close to putting on a spectacular show like yours.
