I was'nt sure what to expect for my 7th time seeing KISS. I have to admit, when I saw them on the Psycho Circus tour, I was beginning to itch for a few different songs. Apparently, I was not the only fan thinking this. I also was'nt sure what to expect in terms of the energy level as well, as I had seen the "Opening Night" performance on VH1 and was not too wowed. I don't mean to sound negative, they're my favorite band of all time. I just did'nt know how it would go. I ran into a guy who told me not to worry, that television does not do KISS justice. How right he was!
This was probably was the BEST I have seen from a KISS concert. From the opening notes of "Detroit Rock City" to the end, the band was on all cylinders. They sounded tight, and sounded strong. I also love the fact they did "I Love it Loud", a song I always looked forward to hearing live. With Peter on the drums (which I believe are the meat and Potoaes of that song) it was amazing. The versions of "Lick it up" and "Heaven's on Fire" with Ace and Peter also sounded great. I used up so much energy, that I had to sit down by the time Peter got to his solo. These boys kicked my ass!! Thus proving what I have told everyone I know for years, this is THE greatest show on Rock and Roll. The tireless Paul Stanley still has more energy than anyone in Rock, and showed why he is the ultimate frontman. Yet I have to say it was Gene Simmons who impressed me the most. The Demon was in rare form this evening. During his bass solo, he began smearing his chest plate with blood and licking it of of his fingers. Pure Rock and Roll, and Gene is still ONE SICK BASTARD!! Thank God.
I was trying not to be emotional, although it was difficult, especially whe they had "God gave Rock and Roll 2 u" playing in the arena as the crowd exited. This band has meant so much to me on so many different levels for many years. When all goes wrong for me, there's always KISS. I really don't weant to say goodbye to them, but if it's time, I guess they know best that it's time to say farewell. I will try to see them again before the tour is over. If I don't, however, I can truly say it was one hell of a goodbye KISS!! I salute Gene Paul Ace and Peter for all the great years of music and entertainment. So long fellas, thanks for the memories.
