I've seen KISS when they were young and Cheap Trick opened for them, I've seen KISS when Vinnie Vincent tried to copy Jimmy Page with a violin bow and just couldn't do it, and I've seen KISS with Eric Singer and Bruce Kulick, not to mention the Reunion and Psycho Circus tours. Now I was pretty young when I seen Kiss in the 70's but I can safely say that the gig at the Fargo Dome was better than the Reunion and Psycho Circus tours. I was supposed to see them in MN, but they didn't show up and I had to get back to work. Needless to say I was anxious when I arrived in Fargo.
Forget Skid Row and Ted, they were fine and did what they had to do as opening acts. This was KISS. They were better than their opener on VH1 (Which looked "not to good" when I seen it). After all the touring they have done so far, I just couldn't get over how "fresh" they looked and sounded. They put 100% in to everything that night and they kept the Dome rocking. Paul seemed to take the crowd to heart, touching on the flood, and the history of his exploits with the town. I think this was musically the best I've heard them since they've gotten back together. Ace hit everything, even on Love Gun. I've yet to see or hear him do that up to this point. Gene rose to the scaffold and Paul flew to the center of the Dome. It seemed like they put the Reunion and Psyco Circus tours together to make this one. The fire bombs were awesome and the stage was awesome. It kind of reminded of the center of the Kiss Alive II album. Though the Reunion and Psycho Circus stage setups were kind of similar to the KAII also... Whatever, it seemed like there was a little more effort all around on this one. The one glitch I noticed was Ace couldn't get the guitar on the guide wire and it didn't take off. Ace stated "It was supposed to fly"...It was kind of funny. Other than that, it was great! I was impressed. Another thing I noticed is it is funny to look at Peter because he doesn't move his arms like he used to, but he still is fast and he keeps great time. He was very good in Fargo. He even did a little disappearing act during the oncore. I think he had to take a leak, but that was my opinion. Just to recap: It was worth the money I spent and the almost 4 hour drive to get to Fargo. The whole experience was great. The people of Fargo are great and friendly. No wonder KISS keeps coming back there. I will certainly be back. I have my tickets to see KISS again in another venue in August. I wonder if they will be as fresh and "Rockin'" as they we! re in Fargo. If they are, I will have no complaint!! Fargo was awesome and KISS was AWESOME!!
