KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Johnny Price
I'm going to skip all of the boring details that everyone else seems to be putting and skip straight to the show. Nobody really wants to hear about what happened to me on the way to the show or what I bought, etc. First off, all that I have heard about Skid Row is how awful they were, so I was expecting that. I thought that they were pretty good. No, their new lead singer cannot hit the high notes like Sebastian did, but so what. The group sounded good and the singer was ok.

Next , there is Ted. I can see exactly why he was chosen to open. Ted got everyone off of their seats and he really brought the crowd to life. His ranting and raving was not as bad as I had heard, but he was Ted. Talk about energy, his three piece lineup rocked. Tommy is an animal on the drums.

Now, the good stuff begins. The new entrance is incredible! Having the guys lowered along with Peter and his drumkit is alot better than the lame intro on VH1. The setlist was the same from the past few shows. I thought the footage that was payed during Do You Love Me was great, but it was somewhat distracting. I found myself wanting to watch it more than the group! The flames during Heaven"s On Fire an d 100,000 Years were intense! Ace's solo included Hard Times, NY Groove, Snowblind and Parasite. The only bad part about that was that it left you wanting more. Paul also did the first part of I Still Love You before Black Diamond. The drums went up for Black Diamond and for Rock And Roll All Nite. The risers that were used were more like what were used on the Super Bowl than the cherry pickers.

Now, it is time for me to voice my opinions. I don't know what some of the people who have poste dreviews were watching, but it definetly was not this show. This blew away just about every show that I have seem them do. Isaw them opening night at Tiger Stadium, opening nite of Psycho Circus at Dodger Stadium, New Year's eve in Jersey on the reunion tour and endless other shows. They sounded great, they looked great and they were very playful with each other and the crowd. I haven't seen so many boobs being flashe doutside of being in a stripclub since I don't know when! Ace and Peter seemed to get into the 80's material as much as the rest. I think that some of the people who are posting that don't want to believe that a KISS existed without Ace and Peter and they recorded some damn good material! I thought Psycho Circus sounded better than any other time that I have heard it. I did not think that the pyro was more than before. The flames were definetly more, but not the pyro.!

The pyro for the finale was great! I forgot to mention that Paul and Gene both flew. Gene looked menacing during his blood ritual.

The merchandise was also incredible. I thought that all of the shirts were beautiful and let's not even get started on the tourbook. So what if we have seen some of the pictures before, I have never seen such an incredible program. It was definetly worth the $30. One last note about the show, Peter seemed distracted by the mirrorball being used during Beth. He screwed up the second verse, but he recovered quickly.

I am sick and tired of hearing people complain about how much they payed for their ticket or a shirt or a program. nobody put a gun to your head and made you do that. That was a decision that you made yourself. If you think tht it's too much, don't buy it. As far as the "they're doing it for the money" statement that I keep hearing, SO WHAT! I think it's called a job and the last time I checked I did my job so that I could get paid. True, most of our jobs suck compared to theirs, but who works for free? Not me! As far s the complaints about nothing new being done, this is a farewell; a goodbye. They are giving us in the 2 1/2 hr. show everything that has made them the legends that they are today. I want every gimmick, every signature move, every trademark that made KISS KISS. We should leave the arena with a memory of everything the encompanies KISS: makeup, costumes, pyro,Gene's firebreathing and blood spitting,Ace's smoking guitar, Paul flying,Peter's kit rising to the ceiling, Paul's guitar smashing, the confetti, the bright KISS logo, lots of energy and great rock and roll songs. Who wants them to drop that to do something new? NOT ME!

This is the first of several shows that I am going to see. I welcome any and all e-mails that I get. My address is jpdeuce73@hotmail.com. I have an extensive video collection of 250+ tapes that i like to trade. I have been a fan for 23 years and I refuse to let the flame go out just because they are hanging it up. E-mail me, I'll respond as soon as possible.
