From: Alan Mayer
This was a great KISS show! Very worthy of the Farewell Tour. The BI-LO Center was packed...perfect for a final show.
THE ATTENDEES: Alan and wife Kris, Scott and wife, Lisa
THE SEATS: 10th row on the floor
THE QUEST: Scott and Alan were completing their God-annointed quest of seeing KISS at least once in each of 4 decades. (also in 4 different venues)
THE BONUS: Seeing Ted Nugent was a great addition to this show....the highlight being a flawless "Stranglehold" which really rocked. The wives were thorougly disgusted, however, with Ted's antics. Ted milked the southern crowd with his confederate flag shirt and his "I'm from South Detroit" attitude. I must admit, I too was creeped out by Ted's need to call Sarah Brady a whore. Music good, politics unnecessary. (Was hoping to see Derek St. Holmes, as I had heard he appeared in Atlanta, but not to be)
THE SHOW: A close-to-flawless show. Great songs (our highlights were "GOD OF THUNDER" & "COLD GIN") and great energy. ...oh yeah...and great blood.
SPINAL TAP MOMENTS: There were two glaring Spinal Tap moments. The first involved Ace. He apparently went to Venus during his solo in SHOCK ME...when he returned to earth for the closing choruses, he was several beats behind and could not find his way back. Paul tried to visually cue him but could not bring him in. Ace experienced controlled flight into terrain. The song ended with Ace blankly looking over to Gene, and then muttering a probable obscenity...a very funny moment. The other gaff will go down as a classic. After the concert ended in it's usual bombastic way, the lights go down, the band leaves the stage, and a personal message from KISS is displayed on the video screen, "KISS LOVES YOU, GREENFIELD". Too bad we were in Greenville instead of Greenfield. The crowd moaned in an anti-climactic let-down.
THE SUMMARY: A beautiful end to a strange and wonderful rock'n'roll journey...a journey that took me from being a socially inept teenager in 1976, all the way to being a socially inept 37 year-old, with a wife and two kids. We had witnessed KISS at it's apex in 1977...and had hung in there during the low points (early 80's), followed them into the '90s with "Revenge", and back to the pinnacle with Alive Worldwide. I'm happy for the apparent success of this Farewell tour. It feels good to say goodbye with 15,000 others. Farewell !!!....and long live THE LEGEND!!!!
>>>>SPECIAL THANKS TO: wife KRIS for going with me on this one. Her first KISS show in 14 years of marriage! and thanks to Scott (my partner in HEAVY METAL LUST) and his wife Lisa (Rose Metal) for the Rock'n'roll memories. Now...if only AC/DC will tour again.....
