KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: John T.
Kiss rocks Ontario one last time! I saw them in Toronto in June, and as great as that show was, this one was better! The whole band seemed livelier, particularly Ace (who looked like he might just collapse a couple of times in T.O.) and having a lot of fun. Even Peter, who still has that lonely teardrop painted on his face (showing that he still isn't getting the cut he thinks he deserves from Big Daddy Gene?!), was laughing and smiling a lot. Some playful highlights of the night included Gene giving the crowd a 'Whassssuuupp?!' before 100,000 Years; Paul taking a shot at speaking 'Canadian'; and Ace saying 'Help!' as Gene was menacing his guitar with that tongue. The band really rocked for all of the show, even though Copps Coliseum wasn't nearly as packed as it was for the Lost Cities reunion show three years ago. For some reason, Kiss always seems way more energetic in slightly smaller arenas.

All the effects and stunts went off without a hitch, which is sort of a relief after reading so many reviews where one thing or another (or several others!) doesn't work. The set list was almost identical to the Toronto show (and just about every Farewell show): Detroit Rock City/Deuce/Shout It Out Loud/I Love It Loud/Shock Me/Firehouse/Do You Love Me/Calling Dr. Love/Heaven's On Fire/Let Me Go, Rock 'n Roll/2,000 Man/Psycho Circus/Lick It Up/God Of Thunder/Cold Gin/100,000 Years/Love Gun/I Still Love You-Black Diamond/Beth/Rock And Roll All Nite. A nice surprise was different vintage footage during Do You Love Me; but the biggest surprise of all was when Kiss came out for R&R All Nite, and Paul said they were going to do one more--but then the band went into I Was Made For Lovin' You first. Very cool... though it's sort of too bad that they haven't been sticking all different songs in this slot all along. That way the band could have still stuck to their reliable crowd pleasers, but given each city something special by pulling out an encore song at random. Oh well...

All in all, a terrific show, and if this is the last time I see 'em, it was a hell of an end to twenty-four years of Kiss concerts!
