I came down from SF for this show and I'm glad I did. The boys were hot from the get-go tonight. The showstarted and ended late because Ace missed his flight to LA. So, he was choppered in at about 8:45. I was actually peaking throw a chain link fence and by sheer luck & good timing, I saw Ace climb out of a Benz URV. He got dreesed quick and KISS hit the stage at about 9:30. What can I say? They smoked. It was almost like Ace was trying to make up for his tardiness by playing as good as I've ever seen him lay it down. Also, although it's never mentioned much, the musicianship was top notch all the way. Simmons is actually one of the most underrated bas players o9f the last 25 years. Gene was on big time too. He added a lot of cool fills in Let me go R&R & 100,000 years. The crowd was waayyy better than the sleepy Bay Area crowds I saw two weeks ago at Shoreline & Concord. I felt bad for KISS at Shoreline cause tehy were palying real hard and the crowd just stood around with their hands in their pockets. Anyway, Paul as always was the master and Pete was killer too. Geat crowd, great show.
I also caught San Bernadino the next night but the facility was no where near as nice as Irvine. bernadino had a really drunk and edgy vibe to it. A lot of tough guys walking around with bad looks if you know what I mean. Women were hot at both shows,(isn't that a great part of seeing KISS? Girl watching!) and were decked out big time either in costume or R&R garb. Too bad KISS is hanging it up cause they are in top form right now. Catch them if you have not. There will never be another live rock show like this again. Happy trails.
