KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Paul T. Vogel
Let me start off by saying that the show was spectacular! The opening act - Skid Row was good, although Snake Sabo had the lamest excuse in the world for not being there (he slipped in some puke and broke his ankle). Ted Nugent was absolutely in top form (even though he only had a short amount of time), and even was able to deal with technical problems like the true professional he is. Now on to KISS.......my complaints are somewhat minor, but I feel they warrant being mentioned. First off, the tour just kicked off last week, and TONS of lights were out on the set AND the KISS logos on either side of the stage. I'm not talking about the stage lighting......I'm talking about the practicals.....the little light bulbs if you will. It looked like they had already been around the world a couple of times.....no excuse. Also there were inconsistencies with the smoke and fire....sometimes one side would work and the other wouldn't. Then the side that wasn't working - worked , and then the side that was working, wouldn't....goofy, really.

As for the performance, Paul sang the wrong verse in "Do you Love Me" (The video retrospective during that song was VERY cool". Ace missed singing a few "Shock Me"'s during that song, and was not as tight as he could have been on his solo and the "80's KISS" songs. Peter sang the wrong verse on "Beth" (he even rolled his eyes as if to wonder how he screwed up the worlds most easy to remember rock ballad). Also, Peter had NO SOLO, which is something that is sorely missed (I've always liked Peters solos). Gene was perfect, as usual, and the other guys were close. This was a great show, but was not as good as the Dodger Stadium Psycho Circus Kick-off on Halloween of '98. That show, with all of the technical problems it had was still a better overall performance by KISS. The mistakes I pointed out were minor, but I spent alot of money on tickets, gas and souveniers and these guys have been doing this for a long, long time. I still think I got my money's worth, I just think the show needs to be tightened up a tad to be the best they can do for their fans.
