When I arrived at Freedom Hall I had only minimal expectations for the show. I was wrong. KISS can still deliver! But first, the openers.
I missed Skid Row, who according to others at the show, did only four songs. Pretty shabby treatment for a band that has platinum albums under their belts. Nugent would have been great if he could only reign in his horrible potty mouth and his compulsive need to refer to democrats, homosexuals, foreigners, etc, as "dirty whores" and "pieces of shit". Stick to the music Ted & grow up.
KISS's show was awsome. The Psycho Circus show I saw in December 1998 was a little disappointing. It appeared that the band (particularly Gene) was only going through the (very tired) motions. This show however was much better; Ace was climbing over the amps at the end of the night, all the flying machines actually worked, and the fireworks were great. Also, the bank seemed to try to change their rap with the audience. Instead of the Paul's usual reliance on 25 year old routines, he talked about dreaming to be a rocker when growing up, among other things. Only weak point in the show was song selection. I am sooooo tired of hearing 100,000 years (a song which to me is only passable), Beth (great song, but do I really want to hear this at every KISS show?) and "Do You Love Me" (again good, but other things I want to hear). KISS should have included "Into the Void", "Hard Luck Woman" (for the Peter vocal) and any of the following instead of "Do you love me": "Watchin' You"; "Nothin to Lose"; "Parasite"; or "She". Also "Psycho Circus" works best as an opener, not a song stuck in the last 25% of the show.
I highly recommend seeing this group one last time. Now, if only Ted could clean up his mounth a bit the night would have been perfect.
I drove over 400 miles to get home from the show (I flew on the way in) & had minimal expectations, but found myself pleasantly suprised!
