My wife and I came down from Cincinnati and the trip was well worth it. This was
my 4th KISS show. I had previouslly seen them on the Dynasty, Animalize, and Reunion
tours. And I'm glad to say they saved the best for last. I know all of us diehards
are a little bummed about the "been there, done that" setlist, but once you're
there - it simply doesn't matter. DRC, RNRAN, etc. al sound as good as the first time
you heard them.
As everyone else pointed out, the show was great. We skipped Skid Row and only caught the Nuge's last 3 numbers. I love to listen to Ted play but his rhetoric is getting really old. Or maybe it's just seems that way 'cause I'm getting old(er) - I turned 35 two days before the concert (Ace and I share the same bday). Anyone who doesn't own Ted's "Double Live Gonzo" should run out and get it. It's right up there with "Alive!" on the list of all time greatest live albums.
Rather than repeat what everyone else has said about KISS, I'll offer some observations in retrospect that I made during the show knowing it was (probably) my last KISS show....
"Firehouse" is a killer live tune. I had forgotten how killer until hearing it Sat. nite.
If KISS should ever get inducted into the Hall of Fame, they should play "Let Me Go Rock N' Roll" at the induction ceremony. This is the KISS tune that I enjoy listening to the most (unfortunately, you know they'll play RNRAN). This song jams like no other.
This was not the same band without Ace. I noticed that Ace and Paul really are the center of the live show. Except during his marquee numbers (ILIL and GOT), Gene is noticeably low key. But Ace and Paul are really the ones stalking the stage and working the crowd. And Peter just seems to be having the time of his life - and I'm glad.
