KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Rhys Lett
After being blown away on the Wednesday night show none of us could miss the opportunity to witness KISS one last time. A more subdued crowd for the Thursday night show, possibly because of a lot of repeat offenders as well as the sad feeling that this would be the last time KISS would be playing our town. Tonight I was sitting on the opposite side fo the stadium, the Ace side. The overall sound from the Ace side of the stadium seemed a lot better (able to actually hear Gene's bass tonight)

Once again the show was Pure Rock theatre at its best.

Ace troopered on despite some onstage sound problems early. A nice surpise was Talk To Me...Ace was the first guitarist that I learnt ALL his solo's when I was growing up as a teenager (hey I still am growin up....I am only 22 !!!) so seeing them played in the flesh just makes you appreciate how Ace truely has his own very melodic sound (and how Ace gets a crowd on side in two seconds........something Bruce in 15 years still couldn't acheive). I hope he hits our town again someday in a club capacity.

Eric I feel had a better night on Thursday......he really had a dog of a time early in the Wednesday show, dropping sticks and beats everywhere (no dance music pun intended) but eventually found his groove on Wednesday. Shout it Out Loud being back up to tempo for the Thursday show. He had big shoes to fill and did it with respect for the audience as well as the music, everyone coming out of the shows talking up Eric in the same sentance as how great the show was.....thanks Eric for making the show go on.

Gene is a much better force in the make-up. Wednesday night was a better night for Gene's performance, a lot of funny antics and games possibly because of the better crowd response on that night. Thursday was a workman performance, even still a 1000% over any other bands stage presence.

Paul is Paul....simply awesome. How can flick a guitar pick so far ?????? Thursday saw the inclusion of Forever in the acoustic section. Also would be great to see come out to Australia in a small venue situation.

Interesting tense end to the concert on Thursday with a big stare down between Gene and Ace (Ace laughing all the time during stare down) doing the end "jam" session !!! Thursday saw the inclusion of Strutter, Goin Blind, Mr Speed and Ace spinning off into Rocket Ride (the tension causer) after a snide Gene comment (try and keep egos in check for our sakes boys !!!!).

Overall highlights had to be the first sighting of Kiss decending from the roof, video package that went along with Do You Love Me, FIREHOUSE my KISS fave and the inspiration from a show like this.

So how bout a 30th anniversary get together, fer old times sake ?????
