KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Angus Stuart
Well what can I say about the hottest band on earth . Gene's evilness, Paul flirting with the ladies, Ace having fun being his normal cool self and Eric playing some of the best drums I've ever heard. The night started off with a good warm up from the Screaming Jets then after quiet a long break we heard the intro. The crowd roard as they went straight into "Detroit Rock City". The band were lowered down from the roof , even Eric playing drums . This was awesome ,KISS were back for the last time. "D.R.C" is a great way to start off and the crowd were really into it. Paul's interaction with the crowd often sounds scripted and premeditated. A more spontaneous approach probably would have worked better and that is what we got whenever Ace was center of attention. He is definetly the laid back style guitarist but anyone who say's he's too old or looks tired doesn't know what they're talking about. Ace is the coolist guitar player on earth and he was in outstanding form.!

He nailed every solo with ease and looked to be genuinely enjoying himself. When Paul said Ace is going to sing a song now I was hoping for "2000 man" but instead we got "Talk To Me". This was fantastic and brought back some great memories of my younger years. This was the highlight of the night for me. His voice and playing were as good as he was 20 years ago. He also did a stong performance of "Shock Me" and my mate Bluey said that made his night.I was thinking at the time that Bluey's sexy wife Tanny was a real honey for getting us these amazing tickets. This was going to be a special night.

Paul really got the girls going with his shirt off showing his still great physique. His best moment was when he played a solo medley which included "Hard Luck Woman" and ended with "Shandi". It was classic Paul and his voice was so smooth on "Shandi".He also flew out to a small stage in the crowd while they were playing "Love Gun". I thought this is where he should have done his medley from.

Gene Simmons is still as mean as ever and he puts on the theatre side of the show with blood spitting and evil glances to the crowd. His voice still sounds great after 25 years or so of hard rock'n roll.

As for Eric Singer well all I can say is I was a big Peter Chriss fan but Eric is one of the best drummers I've ever heard. He keeps the band moving along and adds a powerful edge. I'm not one for long drum solos but Eric's solo was great. He also did a great version of "Black Diamond".

Every member of KISS can sing well and they all have a different style. It's this reason that I think KISS are so good. All in all KISS played for about 2 1/2 hours covering songs from nearly every era ( no Music From The Elder). Of course there was no way we were going to here "Beth" but "Hard Luck Woman " was a nice touch.

The highlights for me were "Talk To Me", "Love It Loud", "Hard Luck Woman", "Shock Me" and the return to the band of Ace Frehley. He was sadly missed for all them years. Hearing Gene launch into "Rock 'n Roll All Night" was great but sad at the same time because this would be the last time. Thanks for the greatest show on earth guys. We wont forget.
