KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Peter
Just back home from the second Melbourne show. Much the same set list as previously reported. Identical I think, even the, " we might play some songs we don't normally play, so who knows how they will turn out?" You know, the same rare songs they do every night. But yes it was a spectacular show, much, much better than the last Aussie tour in 1997(?). The sound system was better, clearer and the guys were in better form. All the tricks went to plan - pyros, Genes wire jump, Ace's rockets and Paul's audience cruise.

But..............................despite all the good vibes and great technology (the big screen camera work was especially tight), the show needed some spontaneity. I suppose if you doing hundreds of gigs it's hard to vary the act, but it would have been welcome. The stage banter and performance was identical to all the other shows I've heard about.

I hark back to days when I saw the band in Munich and Hamburg in 1980 when they were playing 2000-seat halls with Iron Maiden. It must be hard doing 27 years on the road, and they really did put in the effort tonight. Let Me Go was a great highlight with its new arrangement. I think that was what was needed. More reworking of the old stuff along the lines of Unplugged. It gives an old classic new life.

Paul still has the six-pack abs and looks genuinely enthused by the audience. Tonight's show was the first on sale in Melbourne and I think the diehards were there in force tonight at Melbourne Park. It was worth the bucks (but $50 for a program!!!), but I would have liked more impro than I got. Still the fans got what they paid for. A Great Show...
