KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Duane Kaufman
I missed most of Skid Row’s set. Was never a fan anyway, and the little that I did hear didn’t change my mind.

I loved Ted’s set. I’ve seen him several times over the years, and he doesn’t disappoint. The band was tight and Ted’s playing and singing were right on target. I wish the sound had been better during his set, especially for his vocals on all the old classics that Derek St. Holmes originally sang. I don’t think Ted is as strong vocally as Derek, but he did a helluva job. As for Ted’s political rantings, I don’t agree with some of what he had to say. However, this is America and we are free to speak our minds here. Besides, I think it was from his "Behind The Music" on VH1 where I heard Ted say something like “If you don’t have a sense of humor, you will hurt yourself getting mad at me.

Now for the main event, KISS. The weather was cool for the show on the shore of Lake Michigan. High in the upper 40s for the day, but KISS certainly heated the place up. I don’t know if it was the great performance, or maybe it was what made Milwaukee famous, but there were several fights near me. Security did a good job of removing the offending parties quickly so they did not ruin the show for the rest of us.

Approximately two hours passed between the opening notes of DRC and the finals chords of RARAN. In between, we were treated to one of their best performances that I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen every line up of the band with the exception of Mark St. John. The only hitch of the entire evening was with Paul’s flight. He didn’t get to. Knowing about the problems Peter has had in the past, I wondered how his drumming would be. He never missed a beat. I hate to think that there will be no more shows, but at least they are going out at the top of their game.
