KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: George
18 000 plus showed up on this Wednesday night in Montreal and none left dissappointed. Skid Row played to a 1/2 empty Molson Centre. I missed the beginning of there set, but they seemed to be doing a fine job of warming up the crowd.

Ted Nugent played with great passion as he continued to belt out his political ideals. He almost got "Boo-ed" off the stage when he commented about peolpe getting out of America if they could not speak English. I guess no one told him that the language issue is not something that you want to get into in Montreal.

At 9:15 the lights went out and the building exploded with excitement. "Alright Montreal, You wanted the best, you got the best. The hottest band in the world....KISS!" Detroit Rock City fills the arena, the giant curtain drops, down come Gene, Paul, Peter and Ace from the sky. Great start to a great night. The set list was the same as all the other shows thus far. Great renditions of Deuce, Calling Dr. Love, Love Gun, God of Thunder, Detroit Rock City, Black Diamond, Cold Gin, Firehouse. I would have loved to see and here them play She and Parasite, but I was blown away by a great version of "Let Me Go Rock & Roll". The band was tight throughout the whole night. The newer stuff, I still Love You, I love It Loud, Lick It Up and Heaven's On Fire came across great. Ace and Peter were playing as if they wrote these songs themselves! The whole evening had a great sense and feeling to it.Everytime they broke into the "Clasic Gene, Ace, Paul 3 guitar choreographed moves, the crowd went balistic. Paul did his usual rant with the audience and they responded with open hearts. He was the great showman that he is. Gene was as only Gene could be. The Bat-lizard himself strutted across the stage as if he were looking for prey to consume. A bra was thrown on the stage and Gene stuck it on the mic stand to make sure that it did not go un-noticed. Ace was very tight and very in time. He was a lot leaner than I had seen him in the past. He lost his way at one point during his solo and could not figure out where his guitar had been hoisted to. He eventually found it and shot it with his other guitar during the remainder of his solo. As for typical Ace, a man with few words and a bit of un-balance as he stuts across the stage, but a true showman. I though we lost him a few times, but he kept emerging from underneath the stage where his guitars were. Peter played his life out. I have never seen him play as he had done in Montreal. He was on the ball all night, with energy to spare. The drums pounded as if they were being beated by a giant. He did a great job of singing "Black Diamond" and he brought the house downwhen he sang "Beth".!

He, as well as all the rest of the band had smiles on there faces all night. Before they closed the night with Rock and Roll all Nite, the band bowed to the crowd and started to joke among themselves. Gene, Paul and Ace were joking with Peter as he tried to get back to the drum riser. I have never seen so much confetti in my life. It poured continuously out as the final song of the night played. It flew everywhere in the building. Then as the song eneded, "We love you Montreal, thank you for making our dreams come true!" it was over. 2 hours and 15 minutes had gone and everyone had seen one of the greatest shows ever. It was sad to know that this was probably the last time that we would get to see the band, but as far as going out on top, KISS did it with style that will be unsurpassed by anyone!

Great show, great night, great crowd, great memories! Thank you KISS for something that all of us will keep forever!
