KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Geoff Chadsey
Walking up to the molson center, I realized that this would be the last time I would be attending a Kiss concert. A crowd had gathered outside, comprised of young fans (6-13) and even older, you could say it was quite diverse. Many came dressed in Kiss outfits and make-up, some were really incredible. There was a local radio station blasting kiss tunes outside the venue, and you could feel the energy building in the air. I was a little dissapointed with the merchandise, not much there. The stuff that was there was pretty lame, I picked up a tour book for $35. I was going to get the kisstory 2, but changed my mind. The reason I love kiss shows so much, is the chemistry that exists when you are surronded by kiss fans. Everyone is so friendly and talkative, it is almost like a huge family reunion, somepeople you recognize, some you never met but the connection is still there because your family...that is what a kiss audience is all about. On with the show:

Skid Row: not much to say here, your typical rock band trying to hold on to whatever time they`ve got left. The new singer is not as good as Bach, I mean duh why settle for less, at least Bach set a standard. Ted Nugent: The bill might as well read Kiss, Tommy aldridge and Skid Row. I mean for the love of god, how does he do it, amazing is an understatement! Ted was cool, good guitar player, tight band, I found the songs boring. He should really try to tone down the political talk, nothing wrong with having an opinion, but I mean there is a time and place for everything and a rock concert is not that place.

Kiss: What can I say, I have been waiting a long time for this show. I won`t go into all the things that are already well known due to the other reviews, I will just talk about specifics. Peter played great, but in all honesty it is good they are retiring, he looks frail up there. He looked as if he was having fun, really enjoying himself. Gene was really in character tonight, and sang great even his bass lines were right on. Paul, now I do not know about you but he could definitly get a job as a preacher after this tour...I mean come on, way to much talking, it got annoying after a while. His voice was in tip top shape, maybe the best I`ve heard him sing at a kiss show. Ace, now there was a problem here, He was bad screwing up the most simple guitar solos. How can a man who plays these songs all the time, keep fucking them up? Its not like he needs to practice(or does he?). His voice was off and he just did not seem into it, it was like he was counting down the minutes. The songs lick it up, heavens on fire and I love it loud were awsome! The backing vocals were great! I actually prefer these versions to the original ones, kind of makes you think what it would have been like if ace was there in the 80`s. On a whole the show was great, I did however prefer the reunion tour, there was a certain magic that just was not recreated on the psycho circus and the farewell tour. One thing is for sure the moment that last bomb went off and the lights faded to black, it hit me. A depression settled in and I found myself sitting there well after the show had ended, watching the stage being taken down. It was sad, I doubt another band will be able to offer everything that kiss does, to be able to give us the show we come to expect, the thought that no one will be able to fill those 7 inch leather boots. That thought is a devastating one.
