KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Jack-o
I had never been to the New Orleans arena and I must say that there really isn't a bad seat in the place.

Skid Row: A little too distorted, I really couldn't make out which songs were which until my friend passed me down some foam ear plugs. It's a good thing too! Those guys really played hard and quick, I just don't care for their music too much (didn't really care in the late 80's either)

Ted Nugent: Ted is Ted! What more can you say? The Motor City Mad Man was in top form last night. He was really playing to the crowd with his antics and this man has got a rap! I was really impressed.

Kiss: The curtain dropped and out they came. What a stage, what a spectacle! If you only see one show for the rest of your life, this is the one. Never once does the money you are droping into the Kiss retirement fund enter into your mind. Truly worth every penny. The set list was pretty much standard, some songs did stand out in my mind as particularly good: 2000 Man, Ace was really on and the acoustics of the New Orleans center made every riff crack your ribs. Cold Gin, this song just smokes live! Balck Diamond, they were extremely tight on this one and I love it Loud was just too cool.

Paul: Paul was in top Rock God form last night. He really looks fit. I mean, he always looked well for his age, but I would say he had shed a little weight since the VH-1 concert. His voice was really on!

Gene: My God! Gene was dynamite, he really had the crowd rolling and his flying went off without a hitch. God of Thunder really rocked the house!

Ace: Ace as always was in space, but not too far away too shred the guitar. He impressed all of my friends who went with me, none of whom are Kiss fans. They really got a kick out of his laid back attitude. He was pretty tight on his riffs and was bunny hopping through a couple of songs, it was pretty funny. His solo was really more like the Alive II version. I listened for parts of other songs that I had been reading about, I didn't hear those, but he did do the theme for 2001.

Peter: It seems that everyone who posts a review feels compelled to defend Peter and his playing...I WILL DO THE SAME!!! Peter was awesome! He was so comfortable looking and really hit some great fills. I Love it Loud was shaking the rafters. He may not be playing like a wild man, but he never misses a beat. I think he is unfairly criticized for his lack of exagerated body movements because people are watching him follow Tommy Aldridge (Nugent's drummer) who happens to be one of the more animated drummers in the business. Peter's flashy days are behind him, efficiency is the key and he has it! Also, the solo he did during the break in 100,000 years was AWESOME!!! I've been reading that he doesn't do a solo. Well, I'm a drummer and I call that a solo. It was complex and it lasted about 2-3 minutes, what else could you hope for? Oh, and his voice was as good as I have ever heard it.

All in all, the show was unreal. I will never be able to see another live show again, because they will never be able to live up to that one. If you have tickets you will not be dissapointed, if you don't have tickets, get some. Sell your car, sell some blood, sell your soul...or budget an $80-100 excursion, go to an arena near you and share in the experience! They really were great and I will miss them. Thanks guys!
