KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Philip Tracy
Well I have finally recouperated from last night and all I can say is KISS rocks! Our seats were pretty high up but were worth the 38.50 price tag...but not the 65.00 tickets unlimited in Norman,OK sold them to me for. These guys are a professional scalping business and really suck.

Anyways we arrived and hour early and saw the hordes getting fleeced by the t-shirt vednors. $30 for a shirt?!?! That is just so ridiculous. We sat down and awaited anxiously for the night to begin. So finally, Skid Row comes out and started some song I have never heard and that was a common thread until "18 and life" and "I remember you" which the lead singer totally BUTCHERED! This is one of my favorite songs in the world and I can sing it a hundred times better than that yell-a-thon they put out. The highlight of their set was when he asked if OKC missed "the row". The crowd almost unanimously yelled out "NO!" HAHAHAHAHA! What a bunch of losers. And the fact that they kept refering to themselves as Skid F'n Row over and over. Okay guys we get it, you guys are "bad" oOooOoOoOoOo...Skid Row sucked.

So then Uncle Ted opens which I missed cause I was getting a beer for these losers behind us as payment for taking our picture. Which is another thing, I didn't bring a good camera or camcorder because the tickets said not to. Big mistake!! There were literally thousands of cameras and camcorders throughout the building and no one ever said anything, so bring your camera and just be sly with it, no problem. Ted Nugent very well outplayed KISS in his fans's mind, as he was just on fire. He was the best guitarist in the building (sorry Ace!) and it was an honor to see him live. Now I don't know why everyone said he is being too political or whatever, he didn't say anything about the presidnet or politics except during the song "Kiss my a$$!" and that was just "Clinton is a whore!" and stuff like that. He said two things that were hilarious, one was "Oh and by the way, if you can't speak english get the F**k outta' America!!!" and then before another song he said "This song is so sexy even the faggots will be eating p***y tonight!" HAHAHA!. Both of these lines played well to the Oklahoma crowd. The Nuge' rocked hard..

So now after the 2 hours of waiting, KISS opens up with a pretty hot rendetion of DRC and it was electric. Speaking of electric there were numerous glitches all throughout the night. I saw 2-3 microphones fail with Gene geting so pissed he hit one them and knocked it out of the stand, then people were making shadow puppets on the big projection screens and Gene during the song called over some security guards with his fingers and pointed the problem out. Then during the last little bit where Ace is shooting fireworks from his guitar the third and final one didn't go off! So when he hands it off to a roadie they pressed the button and it shot about 5 feet and dies off. Ace was great, Paul was great, and Gene was great, and really funny. They all were, well except Peter.

It was my first ever KISS concert and being a big fan it was treat to see them in person having so much fun. They were constantly goofing off and high fiving each other. The only person who didn't do great was Peter, who played great but sang terrible as he really has not the greatest of voices. He did nice on Beth though, in his defense. The song list was about the same as Dallas. Some things I would ask KISS is why they have such cheese ball computer graphics playing on the big screen. Some of the graphics during the songs, like "Firehouse" for instance, were total crap! Whereas some of the others had excellent computer graphics("2001","Psycho Circus") One song had an accompanying mini-movie playing along with it on the screens. Nice overall effect. Oh yeah another, glitch I just rememebred, the main Television on stage screwed up for a few minutes until they fixed it. Another question I have for you internet KISS fans, why is the drumset going up so cool to everyone? Maybe I just think Peter sucks (which I do) so to me this isn't cool, but the place went nuts for this lame effect. Also to me the fireworks and flames seemed small. I kept waiting for the end when it would just erupt with fireworks but either they didn't work or there weren't any, which I hope wasn't the case. Whatever the reason, the fireworks display was a little bit weak. The flames were nice though and used quite well as were the lights.

"God of Thunder" and "Love Gun" got the biggest pops from the crowd, and thankfully the cables that lifted both Paul and Gene for both went off without incident. But the grand finale of "Rock and Roll all night.." was going great except for Ace's lift. It didn't work for some reason. So Paul ran over and pretended like he was pulling up on the stand to get it to work (hehe) but still no good. So at the end Gene and Peter raised up and Paul and Ace stayed down and laughed as they played. Pretty funny. I was suprised though by the fact that they took off so quickly after the show. I wanted to get to see them, maybe catch an autograph but I suppose this was only wishful thinking on my part, as when the lights came up they were probably already in a limo outback.

Now a special litle message to all the worthless bootleggers at this show, Suck it! Everywhere were people selling pirate shirts for 10 bucks or whatever. Even inside the event, people would approach you selling low quality KISS shirts for 15 dollars or whatever. You are all pathetic scum and I hope you all get busted somewhere on this tour.

Great night, very entertaining but definately my last KISS show. It's just wasn't worth 150 dollars to see that. Many, MANY technical goof-ups and peter voice was just awful during the one song when he was playing and singing. Only two or three stray chords, mostly by Gene who was to busy shwoing off to play perfect I assume, but that's okay. We wanted the best and we did get it, it was just marred by technical failures. I have to strees though to anyone who hasn't seen it, KISS is great live... but this show is not even close to the one Metallica puts on. Not the best thing in the world, but worth seeing.
