This concert, to me, was even better than the Reunion tour that came through here in 1996 and Psycho Circus in 1998. I had my doubts about the performance due to the fact they were outside playing in a pavilion type venue. I thought they may have been somewhat restricted to what they could do because the ceilings were kind of low.
Anyway, Skid Row came on about 7pm and I like their new sound and the crowd was receptive. They were on for about a half an hour till Nugent took the stage. He was awesome and his cracks on Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were hysterical and the crowd loved him.
Kiss took the stage about 9:15 and the crowd went bananas. They did the standard setlist of the other cities. I was so stoked that Calling Dr Love was played. I have not heard that song live in a long time. Paul was phenominal and was full of energy. At first I was a little concerned about Peter because for the first few songs, he was like a carbon copy of Charlie Watts of the Stones, with not much movement. His playing was great though. I was kinda disappointed with Ace's guitar solo. His smoking guitar fizzled out before it made it to the ceiling. He also did not play his lighted guitar (my favorite) during any song.
Gene did his blood thing and that was kinda fast too. When I went to the Reunion tour, he took his time and the blood seemed like it took 20 minutes to come out. That was great though. It seemed as soon as he strummed his guitar, it was coming out of his mouth. There was a Kiss tribute band mingling with the crowd, they were named Detroit Rock City. Gene's look-a-like was the most similar of the members.
At the end of the night, the thought of it being Kiss' last time in the Philadelphia area hit some of the fans in the heart, as my wife got misty when Peter sung Beth and when Paul said goodbye to the faithful. All in all, it was a great night !!!
