Disappointing! I have been a KISS fan for over twenty years and have seen
them live at least ten times before. This show did not achieve a level
worthy of a farewell tour. I was expecting a little something extra, but
what we got was a little something less. The set list was unoriginal, the
pyrotechnics were dismal, and the energy was just not there. All the
extracurricular activities were included, but lacking. Gene did not set
up the fire-breathing well or the blood-spitting. He usually makes a
spectacle out of his antics, but tonight he was just "going through the
motions." No sparks flew out of Ace's guitar. Very few, if any, flash
bombs were set off. "Into the Void" is the worst Ace-tune they could
have chosen. It would have been better if they did Black Sabbath's "Into
the Void" instead. Think about a typical KISS concert and that's what it
was. No show to end all shows. Nothing over the edge. Nothing to raise
the standard. It seemed like just a bunch of old rich guys sucking the
last few pennies out of their die hard fans' pockets. They did nothing
new this tour that they didn't do last year. Actually, last year's 3-D
effects were the extraordinary aspect that made the last tour special.
Nothing special this time. Maybe they should have called it quits last
year.
KISS is still and will always be the "hottest band in the world," but on this particular night, I was hoping for extra spicy. I think we deserve it.
