KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Brian Glisan
Well, first off, as much as I like Ted Nugent's music, he presented himself as a tremendous redneck asshole. Guns are for killing, Ted. And they're being used every day to kill kids. Argue with that.

We drove about 2 1/2 hours to the show, and arrived to the parking lot just as Skid Row started. We didn't try to get to the stage area to see 'em, so I can't comment on their set. Ted was breaking into Wang Dang Sweet Poontang when we got to our seats, and shortly afterward began his little slam of various public figures, including Jesse Jackson and President Clinton. I decided to check out the T-shirts and food at this point, so I didn't see anymore of Uncle Ted.

SO, skip ahead, skip ahead, skip ahead, gorgeous chicks at the show....and finally the curtain comes down and our heroes blast into "detroit rock city". KICK ASS! The crowd was very hot at the beginning of the show, and most of the rest of the night, but got a little cold during Ace and Peter's solos... Here's the set list and any comments about each song that I think are relevant:

Detroit Rock City - Great opener, but I'd rather heard I Stole Your Love and had this as an encore.

Deuce
Shout It Out Loud
I Love It Loud - whooo! Crowd was in fine sing-along mode on this. Great addition to the set.
Shock Me
Firehouse
Do You Love Me - Another great performance by the crowd...loved the video, and actually got a little choked up when the "We Love You" graphic appeared. I'm gonna miss seeing these guys live.
Calling Dr. Love
Heavens On Fire
Let Me Go, Rock N Roll - Peter missed a beat early into this song and had a helluva time getting back on track. He went through Ace's first guitar break wrong, then just started a big fill until the beginning of the next verse. Gene brought him back in. This became a trend for many of the rest of the songs, with all Paul and Ace helping Peter along.
Psycho Circus
Lick It Up - Started this song with Paul leading us in the chorus; it was great also.
2000 Man
God of Thunder
Cold Gin
100,000 Years
Love Gun
I Still Love You/Black Diamond
Beth
Rock N Roll All Nite

Overall, a very satisfying show, but I think the tickets were a bit high-priced. Ironically, WDVE aired an interview with Paul and Gene on the drive in in which they both slammed bands that bitch about "the price of stardom" (Paul reprised this after Beth, while letting Peter get back to his kit). They said that those other bands don't deserve our attention, money, or time. On the radio, Paul said that this tour was a big "thank you" to the fans for supporting them all these years. I had to remark that a real thank you would've been a series of free concerts, since they've made buckets of money off the last 2 tours, but that's just me, I guess. I'm gonna miss 'em, but it's time for them to quit.
