KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Big Al
What can I say, it was Holy Monday at the Providence Civic Center as Paul Stanley appropriately called it. It certainly was for me since I was going back to the place where I first saw KISS 21 years ago. As I stood in my place in the sixth row dead center, it brought back a lot of memories from that first show, and all of them good ones. I had the same feeling of anticipation when the black KISS curtain came down after "Won't Get Fooled Again" as I did back then, if not more given the magnitude of it being my last show. Talk about bittersweet. But once the curtain came down, all the sad feelings I had went away and they turned into sheer enjoyment as the boys blazed through a hot two-hour set. There were no surprises from a set list standpoint, but the band was in excellent form this night. I can honestly say that Ace has never played better and ripped through his solos song after song. Paul was in a great mood, often playing with the cameraman in the front row as his larger than life image projected on the big screen. Gene did his thing as always, but I thought his God of Thunder solo and blood spitting were more dramatic than ever, maybe because I had a dead-on view from my seat. The Civic Center was packed for the show and responded enthusiastically the whole night, as the crowds in Providence always have. All in all it was another great night on the Farewell Tour and a fitting send-off for the greatest band in the world. Long live KISS.
