This review is actually the culmination of one great week with KISS. I was lucky enough to see 3 shows last week (Bakersfield, Oakland, and Reno)! I can honestly say, that the boys are in top form for this tour. Their energy level is high, much better than the Reunion Tour, and they really seem to be enjoying themselves. I've seen the band every tour since the Dynasty tour, and this was by far the best. I know people have complained about the lack of a drum solo from Peter, and the long and sometimes boring solo from Ace. But, the truth is that both of them are playing GREAT!!! It is very obvious that both Peter and Ace are fully into this Farewell Tour. I don't think anyone can blame Peter for not doing a solo, especially since he just had surgery. And for Ace, I think he found a great way to pay tribute to some of his work by playing the introductions in his solo.
When it comes to paul and Gene, they are their usual brilliant selves. Paul sounds great, and Gene is obviously trying to give his best each night.
As for a comparison for each show, how can you? I had seats on the floor for Bakersfield (5th row Gene's side) and Oakland (8th row Ace's side), and I sat in the 9th row in the first section off the stage in Reno. Each show was great, and each show was that much different. Basically because my position changed.
The only real difference between any of the shows, wsa that the band has less interaction with one another in Reno. I also noticed that they seemed to end the show a little faster as well. At the end of 100,00 Years Paul does a little sing along with the audience. He said that he wasn't going to make it too hard, because the hard stuff will come later. Then at the beginning of Black Diamond, he never asked the audince to sing like he had the past few nights. None the less, that show was a great one like the others. It was even more special because I got to take my Dad! His 61st birthday was the next day and he decided he wanted to go. He got to see first hand what his son has been so crazy about these past 25 years.
Thanks guys for a great week, and I hope to catch the show one more time before it is all over. Finally, I know many people have said this in their other reviews, but if you get the chance to see this show go. You will not be disappointed. From the first note of Detroit Rock City to the last note of RARAN, this is a classic KISS show.
