KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Cary Ashby
Well, the day finally came...

and they did not disappoint. KISS was about the tightest I have ever heard them. Some songs were better than others, but that's to be expected. The set list was the same as the other shows. Responsive crowd. But here are some goodies about the show:

Ace: As always, listening to him solo was close to being worth the price of admission. During the end of "Firehouse" when Peter was doing sustained cymbal rolls, Ace waved his fingers at Peter as if he was "magically" getting him to play. Kind a cute! Walked along the steps and speakers during "Cold Gin"; he also sang the last half. No medley during the solo, but he did do "2001". Ace played his "New York Groove" guitar during "RARAN".

Paul: Lots of "If it hadn't been for you..." speeches. He came out to the soundboard no problem during "Love Gun". He stayed out there for the duration of the song. He was still there to do the first half of "I Still Love You" (which sounded fantastic!!) - much of the crowd had their lighters out for that one. Paul kept looking back at the main stage to see if they were ready to haul him back, so he also did the intro to "Black Diamond" on the small stage as well and came back as it kicked in! Another solid performance by one of rock's ultimate lead men.

Gene: During Paul's stage chatter, he would often be drinking bottled water and would spit it at the audience. The bottle soon followed! When Gene would get in Ace's face stick his tongue out at him, Ace stuck his tongue out at Gene. Played his battle-axe bass for "God of Thunder" and "Psycho Circus".

Peter: I was impressed with Pete. He wasn't charismatic, but just did a solid job. Raally kicked a$% on "I Love It Loud". "Deuce" was a little sluggish at the beginning, but the whole band started off that way. He did a 2-3 minute solo during "100,000" Years". Peter thanked everyone for their support over the years after "Beth".

The retrospective video accompanied them during "Do Your Love Me?" - Paul even remembered all the lyrics!! [Of course it helped that the crowd sang most of the first 2 verses. =)] Clips from the Kiss webisodes of "KISS Immortals" accompanied "2000 Man". Kinda cool actually. "Psycho Circus" didn't come off really well and the crowd didn't respond to it. Lots of crowd interaction during the rest of the show, espec. the 80s tunes.

After "Beth", KISS took their bows, after which Ace and Peter went off stage with their arms around each other's shoulders, really cutting up.

I have never seen as much confetti as during "Rock-n-Roll all Night"!!! It was unreal; it reached past the sounbdboard.

Good show - and a fantastic way for me to bid them farewell.

Let me know if you were there!
