Let's see-I knew very little about Skid Row, so I won't comment much on them except to say that it was an interesting change of pace to see one of KISS' opening acts survive without being booed off the stage!
TED NUGENT is an accomplished guitar player, and I agree with him that this political correctness crap has gone way to far! Yea, the Democrats really suck, but I'm no longer very impressed with the Republicans either. I think Nugent could get his message across with fewer racial epithets. Cat Scratch Fever and Stranglehold were enjoyable and very well done.
Now for the real important stuff! I have now seen KISS 3 times (twice on the Reunion Tour),however, this time I was lucky enough to have a VIP pass and great seats-5th row center stage. It was simply awesome! The colors were vivid, the crowd involvement was great, and nearly every song was flawless. Guess I wish Ace (my favorite band member) would have sung "New York Groove" instead of "2000 Man". His guitar solo was not as lively as I remember from the Reunion Tour either. I still sometimes wonder if he knows what city he's in from night to night, but damn I love that wicked sounding guitar!
Paul has incredible vocal ability-I admire the fact that Gene and Paul held the band together in the 80's and early 90's,although I admit to losing interest in the music when Ace and Peter left. Paul still moves very well and garners much attention from the ladies. Not bad for a guy in his 50's. Missed his usual guitar machinations at the beginning of "Black Diamond". Would have also liked to have heard "I was made for lovin you" (supposedly a "disco" tune), but a song that really rocks when done live. Some of you out there are bound to hate that song, however.
Gene's bass solo is exciting and it's always fun to see the reaction from those in attendance who've never witnessed him drool the blood!
Peter had a nice little drum solo-could have been longer but I think he's had wrist problems, and sang well on "Beth" and "Black Diamond". My favorites, "Det. Rock City", "God of Thunder", "Love Gun", "Shock Me", and "100,000 Years". No rock critic could deny that these songs and others performed that night were not what "rock and roll" is all about. By the way, our local newspaper concert beat writer stated that "about 7,000 fans were in attendance on Tuesday". WRONG! The coliseum looked to be 95% full-I would say at least 10,000 people, but who really cares what I think. See you at the Virginia Beach show!
