KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Chris Yonge
WHAT A SHOW!!! Let me begin by saying that I am both thrilled and saddened by the KISS spectacle of July 29. Thrilled because they have proven to be the greatest band on the planet and it was a real honor to see them perform. Sad because it will be the last time that the guys will don the make up, heels and leather and give rock and roll enthusiasts and other so-called rock bands what they need: A GREAT BUTT KICKING!!!

The evening was what you would describe as PERFECT. After watching Ted Nugent's blistering hour set, KISS took the stage and performed for nearly 2 1/2 hours From the first sonic blasts of "Detroit Rock City" it was obvious that this was going to be a KISS show that would forever be remembered. The band performed like a well-oiled machine cranking out such KISS standards like "Deuce", "God of Thunder", and "Black Diamond" as well as some "newer" tunes ("Psycho Circus" (ROCKED), "Lick It Up", "Heaven's On Fire", and "I Love It Loud"). I saw them play on the REUNION TOUR of '96 and they were even BETTER this time. Not a note was missed or solo scrubbed. Paul's vocals were stellar, Gene's bass was thundering, Peter was bombastic and the Spaceman was his usual OUT OF THIS WORLD self (love ya ACE!!!!). In all, I don't think I have ever heard KISS sound this good. One of the things that has always been observable, is the band's love of what they do and the people that they perform for. This night was no different. It felt as if the band was putting on a personal show for several thousand of my buddies and me. For 2 1/2 hours, WE were part of the band. Paul announced several times that WE (the fans) brought them back to do this one more time and that they (KISS) appreciated being asked back out to perform. For all those who are considering seeing the band this last time around, I have a simple suggestion: DON'T MISS THEM!!!! Do whatever you have to do to see "THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD." You will see what everyone has been talking about for 20+ years, the true KISS spectacle, and what EVERY OTHER rock band has been trying to replicate since 1974.

I want to thank Gene Paul, Ace and Peter for the wonderful years they have given to me as a fan. I fell in love with the band in 1975 at the age of 11 and have been a card carrying memeber of the KISS ARMY since. Guys, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. The pride and care that you all have had for your fans will always be remembered, respected and appreciated. I am proud to have followed your careers and I hope you find all that you deserve in retirement. I (WE) will miss you. KISS RULES. See you in dreams.
