KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Rick Bond
This was the third and unfortunately probably the final show that my aunt and I will get to see. We drove down to Las Vegas, and flew to Reno for Saturday night’s show. All three shows where absolutely incredible. Are seats where on the fith row on the side in the first section in Vegas, which by fare where the best seats of the 3 shows. A couple of guys that sat by us said they where from Pennsylvania, I salute them for making the trip.

As far as the Salt Lake show goes, I think I enjoyed it the best, even though are seats where not as good. I was worried the crowd would not be as wild and crazy as the two Nevada shows since it was on a Monday night, but that was not the case. I noticed Skid Row had the crowd going pretty good, and they went wild with Ted. Which by the way, as we where heading to the show, the local radio stations said that some ass had stolen one of his guitars, they where offering 10 tickets and backstage passes for the return, with no questions asked, hope the idiot gives it back.

When Kiss hit the stage the place went nuts, the band seemed to have a lot of energy and it looked like they had a lot of fun. The set list of course was pretty much the same as the other shows, I don’t even think they changed the order around from the Reno show to this one, but I didn’t take notes, so I could be wrong. The sound was good, possibly loudest of the three shows. During Deuce, Gene’s voice was almost cracking through the speakers. I didn’t notice any mistakes by the band, all the mechanical things worked, Gene flew, Paul flew, the risers for Gene and Paul where there, (which we didn’t see in Vegas??) Ace played a portion of Hard Times, Snowblind, and New York Groove during his guitar solo. Paul did not play Forever, which I’m sure would have been a crowd pleaser. I would have liked to have a third song during the encore (like in Vegas) but it didn’t happen. Overall the show was great, the highlight for me has to be during Do You Love Me, with the vintage clips shown on the big screen, I got goose bumps watching them. I also enjoyed DRC, and Black Diamond. I could do without Psycho Circus, (I love the song on cd, its my 3 year old daughters favorite) it just doesn’t do it for me live.

I think it would have been cool for $immons to have given an opening slot to Union, I think they deserve a lot more than playing clubs. There albums are extremely good, and I recommend them to anyone who has yet to hear them. I would like to say thanks to Gene, Paul, Ace, Peter, Bruce, and both Eric’s for the great music over the years and wonderful memories. If the band does come back to Las Vegas like they where hinting, no doubt, I will be there.
