KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Wayne Willoughby
From the minute the infamous intro was announced to the final "Goodnight", KISS were awesome.

My wife, son and myself attended the Melbourne show on the 4/4/01, I unfortunately only saw 5 songs of and heard the rest from the toilet block of the Rod Laver Arena, as I was sick beyond belief, before I had to leave much to the diappointment of my son and wife. Sunday morning, 8/4/01 my wife and I decided to go to Sydney for a second chance.

As a fan of the band since about 1975, I have only seen the band live 5 times, the first at the Sydney Convention in '95 and the concert the night after.

I am a huge fan of the HITS/Revenge line-up's and was disappointed when they returned to the make-up.

The concert on the 8/4/01 with Eric Singer on the drums was the ultimate last show for a long time fan to see. Sure the audience wasn't completely going crazy and there were quite a few empty seats but the band still put on the show we all expect. Paul's vocals were fantastic, he just gets better and better, Gene had his moments, mucked up lyrics in "Shout It Out Loud" and "Let me go Rock 'n' Roll" but then again did he ever get "Domino" right. Ace was Ace. Eric Singer proved that he is a brilliant drummer and singer, Peter may have been the original but Eric Singer brought the band the musical integrity the band attained with Eric Carr for 11 years and throughout his first internship in 1992-95. His drum solo was unforgettable.

As the last bomb went off and Paul said "Never Forget Us, We Will Never Forget You!!" the realisation that this was the last time I would ever see this band live again hit me. They were the driving force and inspiration for so many things in my life and no doubt always will be.

Thank you Paul, Gene, Eric Carr (RIP), Eric Singer, Bruce Kulick, Mark St John, Vinnie Vincent and Peter Criss for all the memories, friendships, relationships and futures your small beginnings in New York City have given to so many over the last 28 years. You will never be forgotten.
