I've been a rabid fan since 1977 when I was 12. I've seen the guys in concert in 1985, 1998 and lastly for the farewell tour. They couldn't have done a farewell show any better!!! My wife has never seen them but likes their tunes so I made her go with me - "Last chance" I told her. She's glad she went.
I remember about half way through the second song it hit me like a ton of bricks. Right in the middle of total Kiss extacy I realized, they're not coming back. It was really depressing. But the energy of the show didn't allow that depression to last. Paul said it best when he shouted " This is a celebration"! I wanted to soak in every second of this last show and burn it into my brain.
I love the way Gene crosses his arms after his solo and without uttering a word seems to say "Where else ya gonna see a rock show like this"
I was afraid the guys were gonna sound like they did during the Pheonix show aired on VH1. That sounded like crap that night. My ears were delighted in Tampa. The guys sounded awesome. The backup vocals were thunderous, every one on que, and each one of them sounded great doing their trademark tunes. I've never heard Ace play so well!! And Peter's drums were loud and proud. They sounded quite a bit different than on the reunion tour. More like Eric Car's kit. And Paul - what a showman!
To sum it all up, I'm glad to see my favorite band go out the same way they came in. With a BANG!
GENE, PAUL, PETER, ACE...Thank You, for all the good times and great music.
I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU GUYS
