I thought it was time to submit an all too scarce female perspective of the farewell
tour. I attended the May 9 show in Toledo and let me just start by saying that Kiss
is and always will be the greatest live band ever! My friends and I were in the 3rd
row centre, the closest I have ever been to my favourite band. Before I get to the
main attraction, just a few words about Skid Row & Ted Nugent. Skid Row was ok at
best. The lead singer (in my opinion) pales in comparison to Sebastian, but all in
all ok for an opening act. Uncle Ted seemed a little tired but still got the crowd
fired up with his "in your face" very opinionated style of R&R. I have seen Ted
many times because I live near Detroit across the border in Windsor, Ontario,
Canada. The man can still play! Now for the boys. First I would like to comment on
the venue which was Savage Hall (University of Toledo). What a great, intimate place
to see a concert. The place holds roughly 9,000 people and you felt like you were
in a gymnasium! It was still big enough to handle all the pyro, flames & large screens
that make up the total KISS experience. Overall the show was nothing short of what
we all have come to expect from KISS, very simply put - GREAT! If you have been a
fan as long as I have been (since 1974) you can always find things in the show that
went a little astray but who cares! Case in point, Paul couldn't fly during Love Gun
which is my personal favourite part of the show. So who cares, he still sang the song!
Ace missed cued a couple of times and Paul had to help him through it. That's Ace.
That's what he does sometimes. That's what makes Ace, Ace! The great thing about Ace
is that whatever "mood" he is in that affects his singing or style of playing that
particular night, he is still on of the most unique individuals ever to hit the
R&R stage. Gene is still a master at taunting the crowd (especially the women). I
think it is still great to see his reaction when he finally gets a women to take
her top off. This happened a couple of times during the show. I wish I had the guts
to do it myself. Rock on ladies! Peter was definitely on and it seems like he is
really getting more & more into each show as the tour progresses. Maybe its because
he is getting healthier. There is nothing like a Peter Criss smile during Beth or
a thunderous yell when he is doing his thing during Black Diamond (as only Peter
can do). Now for my personal favourite, Paul Stanley! I can't tell you the amount
of endorfins that run through my body watching this man. He is just plain & simple -
a STUD. On the musical side, vocally he has never sounded better. He got a big kick
out of having to help Ace out as I mentioned earlier. He also got a couple of women
to take off their shirts. Made me just a tad jealous for a second or two. All the
guys seemed to be really enjoying the farewell tour experience and they deserve
each and every miniute of it. They have given so much to us the fans. I will be
at both shows in Detroit May 24 & 25. Front row for the first show. If I survive
being that close to Paul Stanley, I will submit another review. From me to the boys:
We wanted the best, You are the best! See you in Detroit.
