It's taken me a couple of days to finally sit down and write a review of the amazing show KISS put on Friday evening. I'm still buzzing from the excitement. This was the fourth time I've seen KISS-the last 2 Toronto shows and the Hamilton Reunion show making up the other 3. I'm not going to rank how good it was compared to the other 3 times I had seen them, because every time I've seen them it has been amazing!I would have to say this one was a lot more exciting for me personally because of the events leading up to the show.
I remember when tickets went on sale. It was right after rent day. All I could afford was the cheapest price level. I got pretty good level 320's. The closest you could get to the stage without going behind the stage. I always said to my friend Ken(who came with me) that if better tickets became available that we should upgrade. Well that is exactly what happened. I work at a local record store here in Toronto that just happens to have a Ticketmaster in it. Two days before the show I scored 24th row floors-dead centre. We then sold our old seats to my friends brother and his girlfriend. The day before I sunk too much money into buying makeup so I could go as Ace Frehley to the show, something I have always wanted to do and this would be my last chance to ever do so. So on Friday-at work of all places, one of the girls at work-Jill you did an amazing job!,made me up as Ace. She had never done this before and I'd have to say it was 10 times better than some of the guys I saw made up. Then came the show itself.
After work I arrived probably around halfway through Skid Row. My friend and I didn't give two shits about them so we went out for a smoke. We went in between the Skid Row and Ted Nugent sets. Two of my old pals from London,Ont. were sitting right behind me. They both work for the same record store as me and did the same Ticketmaster deal. Then on came Ted Nugent. I'm suprised that no one has made any sort of critisizm of Ted. Sure he rocked, but what an ass-hole! The first thing he says(in a bi-lingual country) is "if you don't speak English-than get the hell out!" The next thing he says is (on the weekend of gay pride)"even the faggits are going to be eating pussy tonight!", and then launches into Cat Scratch Fever. After the song is done he says,"even the pussy is going to be eating Pussy tonight!" What a stupid Redneck Moron Ass-hole! I spent the last part of his set buying a KISS Farewell Tour Shirt and Tour Program. Oh well enough about Ted.
The curtain drops...KISS rips into Detroit Rock City,as soon as it's done they go right into Deuce. I know it's the same set list as they have been doing all Tour-but it was still great. Highlights for me were seeing them play four songs I had never seen them play live. 2000 Man was awesome though I got destracted by the animated cartoon being shown on the Big Screen. Did Ace do the animation? Of the other songs I thought it would be Heaven's On Fire that I would be least interested in,but it turned out to be the one that I enjoyed the most of the 3 KISS songs Peter and Ace never played on. I thought the montage of KISS history shown during Do You Love Me was great too. When Paul came over the crowd for Love Gun he was right over our heads! The stage platform he goes onto was 5 rows away from us. My friend Ken joked "Pete it has taken us 27 years but we finally got close to KISS!" ACE's solo was great-Ace was great. Peter's solo was a little short but sweet. It was amazing to see it during 100,000 Years again! Gene was just amazing as usual. To be scared of heights and to still do what he does is just incredible. Though I don't know if he looked like he was completely comfortable up in the rafters. The GENE,GENE,GENE chants were well deserved. It was an amazing evening and to be there in make-up was an incredible experience!
So long KISS and thanks for all great memories over the years...you will be missed! I always wanted to see KISS 5 times, but after the fourth time,I'd have to say that I am more than satisfied!
