KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Steven Fallon
Back again at Jones Beach for the second night of KISS. Now after last nite's show I was very down about the set list, and even said I wish I didn't commit tonight's show to a friend who I said I'd bu a ticket off of. Now while the show was indeed exactly the same as last night with all the same tunes, I am very glad I went, as it was another night where Kiss looked really into it and seemed to enjoy themselves.

You know the set list so I'll just talk about things in general. There was one point during the show where Paul said there were "two sell-out nights at Jones Beach" but it was clear as day that on this second night there were thousands of empty seats, as there are for a lot of Kiss shows on this tour. Jones Beach holds about 14,000, and while night #1 was indeed a complete sell-out, this show was I'd guess maybe 8500-10,000 seats sold. Not bad at all for a second night at Jones Beach but not a sellout as Paul stated either.

Kiss rocked, they were having a blast. Sometimes i think they were having more fun than the crowd, which again, was very underwhelmed at some of the choices in the set list. Great songs all, but stuff like "100,000 Years", "Let Me Go Rock and Roll", and a good deal more just didn't kick the crowd in the ass and their lack of enthusiasm was evident as more often than not they gave polite applause instead of losing their minds, as Kiss always expects.

It was another good nite for Peter, sure he made some errors but he seemed to have a great time and did a great "Beth" especially. He was laughing at one point when Gene was gyrating his pelvis in Pete's direction!

There was also a bit more pyro than last night's show, still not up to Kiss standards I felt but still more. There was also a fireworks display after the concert, that was missing from last night's show, and the weird thing is, the venue felt inclined to only let loose on firework into the sky at a time!

Honestly, I really don't want to sound so down on Kiss after these two shows, Kiss will always be awesome, Paul in particular, who was very mobile yet again and going crazy on stage as no other front man can. But when they end it all at Madison Square Garden, if they play yet again all the same old songs they've been playing since the reunion tour, they're gonna get the same underwhelming response, last show or not.
