KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Franki Guertin
What can I say? How can i express what i witnessed on Friday Nights Kiss Show at Jones Beach? I think I'll just be honest. As you read this review, dont forget that Ive been a Kiss fan since i was 3. Im not knocking Kiss or the fans or anything like that, Im just speaking my opinion on this show...

The Stage:

Our Hearts were thumping hard and the energy level was rising, you new that when the last notes of The Who's "Wont Get Fooled Again" strummed out, the drums kickin those famous last kicks, you new that the big KISS curtian was going to drop and the crowd was going to go crazy and scream with The Who "YEAHHHHHH"!!!! But, the wind messed that all up and only dropped some of the curtian and we all screamed "YEA....." Kind of a crappy way to kick off the night. The over all stage set up was cool. I loved the stairs & lights. The confettie was wild and the movie screen had to be a huge highlight of the night. They showed old vintage clips of the band in the early years and that was a treat. When Paul flew out to the crowd and sang "LOVE GUN", it looked awsome and got a big response. Too bad his flying rig went dead when he was supposed to fly back to the stage and finish the song. Instead he asked if it was ok to stay out and hang with all of us... Good cover up Paul. Not too may pyro explosions but what do you expect at Jones Beach. Its small to begin with, and If Kiss did big bombastic explosions, it would have burned the place down...

The Songs:

Im Kinds happy & kinda disappointed. In all the years of being a devoted Kiss fan, the set list in my opinion was lack luster. and the crowd response was a obvious dull what ever. Very obvious & predictable. Although, songs like "2000 Man" was a cool replacement instead of "NY Groove", and "I Love It Loud" seemed to be a crowd pleaser. But, as a fan of the old school, I would have loved to have heard "Flaming Youth" or "Rocket Ride" or even "Let Me Know". Classic Kiss songs like these ones will never be heard live again, and since this is the farewell tour, why not add a few vintage tunes for the die-hard Kiss fans? I really could have lived with out "Dr. Love" and "Lick It Up". So, on a scale of 1-10, i give the set list a 6.

The Band:

GENE:

Gene was his useual self. The Blood spitting, fire breathing, floor stomping, cookie eating monster did his job and gave the crowd his all. My favorite part of the night was his blood spitting. He looked possesed and crazy just like i like him. He scared the crap out of me when i was a kid, and boy did he send chills up myback when he came out for "God Of Thunder".

Ace:

He seemed to be in La La land. Not up to par. His solo sounded like when I used to practice in my mothers basement when I was 6 or 7 years old. The only thing he did cool was play some older songs like "Parasite", "Hard Times" & "NY Groove".. At the end of "Black Dimond", the stage was lifting Gene & Ace up in the air. I guess the stage crew didnt realise that on Ace's side, there was a big wire that Ace got tangled in. It loked seroius at first. They had to drop him down so he didnt get hurt. Im glad he was ok. But, he was Ace and laughed it off.

Paul:

Sang great. Put on a energetic show and gave much praise to the fans. "We are nothing with out you!" he would say. and "If you pay your hard earned money to see a band and they dont give you the respect that you deserve, dont waste your time and money on that band!!" Paul should have been a preacher. He is damn good at it.. When he sang "I Still Love You", his voice was on fire.

Peter:

I thought he played very well and he looked real into the show. He played "Lick It Up" & "I love It Loud" as if they were his. He did a great job... Even thought he came out and said "Its great to be home LONG BEACH!!" I couldnt help but laugh cause we were in Jones BEACH in LONG Island.. I cant wait till I hit 50 years old.

Merchandice & Prices:

SINCE WHEN DO TOUR SHIRTS COST $30.00?!?! A tour book $30.00??? Ticket prices are rediculous. $85.00 for a ticket? Kiss has some nerve making us pay that kind of cash. After all the crap they shell out "We love the fans, we would be nothing with out the fans!!" Why not be honest guys and speak the truth, "We love the fans money, We would be nothing with out the fans money!!" These guys know how much Kiss means to the fans. And they know that fans will pay any kind of money to see them. So why jack up the prices and screw the fans that way? Thats the only real sucky thing about being a Kiss fan, you need money..

Skid Row blew monkey balls.. So I have no comment on thoese fags..

Ted Nugent kicked ass. Very funny guy.. Great guitar player..

Well, thats it for me... Ill see you next time when they come to Madison Square Garden.. Later!
