After seeing KISS at OK City, which was my first concert, and then at Sandstone, Bonner Springs, KS, I just thought I was about KISS'd out, but then we headed to Wichita, KS, which is about 2 hrs from where I live, and after arriving I knew I could never see KISS too many times.
Arriving at the Coliseum, there were lines of people waiting to get in, waiting to buy tickets, behind the building by the tour buses and so forth there were people everywhere!!! This was a GA concert(general admission), so I was hoping we would luck out and get some pretty good pictures and a spot to go, and we did!!!
After getting into the Coliseum, we checked out the seating and floor area. Pauls' stage that he fly's down to on "Love Gun", was empty!!! I couldn't believe it, not a soul was there!!! So immediately we staked out our places. Skid Row came on, and they had improved maybe 25% from OK City, but they're still just a bar band to me. Then Ol' Uncle Ted came on and did the usual, Cat Scratch, Stranglehold, Dog eat Dog, and the notorious KISS MY ASS song. But I was awaiting KISS, I knew the show would be better than at Sandstone and maybe even better than OK City, so I was waiting with great anticipation, then around 9:05, they took the stage.
The lights went out, pitch black and then the sound, the low humming sensation that rocks the whole arena and lets you know that in minutes, "ALL RIGHT WICHITA----YOU WANTED THE BEST-----YOU GOT THE BEST-----THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD--KKKKIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!" What can I say??? They looked great as usual, and put on a helluva show. KISS is KISS, the greatest rock band on earth!!! Gene was in fine form playing the whole stage, licking Ace's neck, sticking his tongue out at the girls and spitting blood. They all looked happy, like they were all truly enjoying this tedious job they do, entertaining the world and loving doing it!!! Paul, Ace and Peter were awesome. Paul is just quite the showman, they couldn't have a better frontman, he's just the ultimate!!! He knows how to play the crowd, talk to the people and make you feel at home. Ace is Ace is Ace, an awesome guitar player who moves like Gumbi. Peter, I thought really looks like he is having a blast doing this! . He acts like he is totally grateful for what the fans have given KISS and he truly gives a heartfelt message of appreciation to his fans, which he has done at all 3 shows I seen on this Farewell Tour.
KISS truly epitamizes the meaning of "The Hottest Band in the World", they love what they do and they don't mind giving you your money's worth, and what you came to see. I didn't discover KISS until I met my husband and I really feel like I missed out on a lifetime of the greatest band in the world, who puts on the most awesome show in the world. KISS, you will be truly missed, but thanks for the memories you've given me which will last a lifetime!!
