KISS Farewell Tour Reviews

From: Per Zetterlund
Well folks, saw Kiss in Yokohama last night, and it was fantastic. Its almost hard to write a review cuz I was in a trance all night. I was fortunate enough to have a front row ticket, 2 m from Pauls mike stand. A few comments:

Setlist; has ben posted already, the big surprise talk to me, sounded great, especially Pauls back up vocals. Made the show a lot fresher. Eric sand black diamond as rumoured before, and he sang it well as expected. They also did IWMFLY, which they havent done lately in the US if I remember corectly.

In spite o all the talk/uproar about Eric/Peter, somehow it made very little difference last night to my overall impression/enjoyment of the show. Eric did play in Peter style, but obviously much better, didnt miss a beat. Especially I love it loud and Lick it up sounded great, no Peter fucking up the drums in I love it loud. Personally I did not miss Peter at all, except perhaps for the nostalgica element. Before one of the encores, Paul introduced Eric to the crowd, explained it was his first show, and the audience cheered enthusiastically, I did not hear one single booing or complaint. It was kind of weird seing Eric in Peters outfit, but like I said, somehwo that was a secondary issue overall. To all you guys who are upset and dont wanna go see the show, I think you are making a mistake, you are mising out on a hell of a show, whatever you think of the Peter/Eric thing.

Paul was in great shape, still looking presentable with no top on after all these years, didnt look much older really since I saw them last time in London 97. His voice is phenomenal, better than ever. He sang I still love you, pretty much the whole song, by himself kind of like he did Shandi on the Aussie leg of the reunion tour, and his singing was fantastic. Seemed kind of strange/sad when he sang "you tell me that you are leaving" when he is just going thru a divorce himself. At one point he seemed to lose it and started a verse again.

Gene was his usual self, prowling around on stage. His voice did seem a bit weak at times though, and at one point during LMGRAR he signalled to Paul to help him sing during the verse.

Ace seemed to be in good spirits, although perhaps looking a bit bored at times, overall putting on a fine performance. He was late getting back on stage in God of thunder, the song started again way before any Ace was visible.

There was quite a bit of joking around going on in between all members, and they did sem to genuinely enjoy themselves.

A bit of a mishap when the risers went up during Black Diamond; the riser on Aces side brought part of the stage with it, casuing some commotionamong the roadies. The problem was sorted out though.

Paul did his flying stunt, he was very low, I could just about touch his boots as he passed over me.

Overall, an awesome show, as usual I had the time of my life during a Kiss show. I will be in the second row tonight, and after that I have 3 more shows to attend in Japan, 1 over 4 to go!!!!!!!!
