Exclusive KISS News From Metal Edge Online
From: Metal Edge Online
There hasn't been much news about KISS since the U.S. Farewell Tour ended October 7, but Metal Edge Online took the opportunity to get an exclusive update from Gene Simmons backstage at L.A.'s Universal Amphitheatre, where he visited with old friend Doro Pesch after her set on Saturday night. First of all, KISS' plans to go to Japan and Australia are still on, "probably February to March, somewhere in there. Both will happen," assured Simmons. After that, "There will be one last show, someplace," but whether or not that will be, as conjectured, at New York's Madison Square Garden, is still to be determined. (And no, there won't be any different KISS lineups to follow.) For now, "Everybody's taking a well deserved rest. The last tour was real difficult but most of the shows were spot-on." Simmons is busy supervising the building of his new house, which he calls "a palace" and which will be ready in two or three months. He's also involved in 18 TV and film projects in various stages of development. These include a VH1 series called Smash, centered around a former rap star who starts a record company. "There will be a lot of guest stars---Leeza Gibbons, Sebastian Bach. I may do a cameo, but it's not about me," he underlined. Another series he co-created is called Hit Men, about "the mob and the music industry, in the early days. The Sopranos meets rock." It's written by Nick Pileggi (Casino) and there may be a part for Simmons. "We haven't started casting yet but I'd step up," he said. But an appearance in the movie The New Guy with JD Qualls an Lyle Lovett is a done deal. Others about to start shooting include Groupies for HBO, Rock And Roll All Nite for CBS, and My Stupid Action Movie, based on his story. The KISS pay-per-view concert was recorded for VHS and DVD and will be out soon, but there's no release date yet for the long-shelved Alive IV. It will come out "as soon as the record company gets its act together. We found out all of a sudden that KISS is on Def Jam which doesn't make me very happy," said Simmons, noting that he'd like to dissolve the band's contract. "But Alive IV will be coming out as soon as we figure out what label it's going to be under." Simmons alluded to a "big music project," but wouldn't reveal any details. "Can't talk about it now," he said. He's not very optimistic about the current state of rock music, however. "There's pop and rap, there is no rock. It's going to take years to change it," he opined. "15 year-old kids aren't interested." So did KISS get out at the right time? "No, we didn't get out because of the scene," he stressed. "We got out because the band had gone as far as it could go." Help Get KISS Inducted To The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
From: KISS-Forever.net
If any band deserves a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it's KISS!! In our opinion, the fact that KISS hasn't even been nominated exposes the hypocrisy of this organization. Would KISS' induction into the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame really make a difference? Certainly it would, as KISS' respectability battle rages on, it would awaken the global music industry to recognize them as a  relevant band. Together we CAN make a difference, and in the process, thank KISS for 27 years of craziness, great shows, and great music! KISS' contributions to Hard Rock/Heavy Metal music genre are numerous and should not be overlooked or shunned any longer! PLEASE join us in our efforts to persuade the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame Foundation to nominate and subsequently induct KISS into the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame. Please fill out our form and give your support! Though we do ask for your e-mail address, it is NOT shown in the list of people who have signed for security purposes. Rest assured that the information you provide will NOT be used for ANY purpose other than this petition. Click over to KISS-Forever.net to sign the petition!

Former KISS Manger Bill Aucoin Is Back With 'Flipp'
From: FlippCentral.com
"Aucoin is back...and with the next big thing?" Quite possibly. Chances are you will be hearing about a band who call themselves "Flipp" fairly soon, and guess who's behind it? Kiss folklore will tell you how important a gentleman named Mr. Bill Aucoin was to their rise to success, and he's back at it again with a hot new act that is well on their way to stardom. Minneapolis-based rock band Flipp released their second album on Tuesday, November 14th under the guidance of the oh-so-familiar AUCOIN Management Team. "Blow It Out Your Ass", the band's follow up to their self-titled debut album released on Disney's Hollywood Records, features 11 tracks that will remind you of a Cheap Trick on steroids - or better yet, KISS meets the Sex Pistols. Some titles include "Rock Star", "La De Da", "Zoom", "Cock Rock", and "Whole World's Sick". Frontman Brynn Arens and his charismatic cast of characters have been in the national spotlight since 1995. This cartoon/punk/rock-n-roll band first gained national recognition after an appearance on MTV's "120 Minutes" and winning a contest for best rock video. The award then landed them an opening performance for White Zombie at The Palace in Detroit, and from there the band went on a brief stint with rock legends Cheap Trick, and made an appearance on the main stage at the 1999 Woodstock Festival in front of 100,000 people.Visit www.flippcentral.com for more details on the band!

KISS Chikara Fanzine Q&A's With Gene & Paul
From: Michel Banen / KISS Chikara Fanzine
"This tour is for the fans" said Gene Simmons. Well, not if you live in Europe that is! That's right, even though they are on their Farewell tour they will not say Farewell to "all" their fans as both Gene and Paul called it "Unfortunate" that they won't tour Europe without giving a reason why they leave their non-USA fans in the dust. You can go to Japan or Australia in March 2001 though after which KISS' final show(s) will take place mid-march 2001. Unlike Gene, Paul has no plans for an autobiography, is not interested in doing films although anything else it possible. Gene confirmed they were moved to Def Jam records and that they would release Alive IV at an undetermined time. And yes, they are still working on the box set! Needless to say that the news of KISS ignoring Europe on their final tour was like a slap in the face of the European fans. After 27 years of support, they will not be honoured on this final tour. "What could be worse for fans to discover that the previous tour turned out to be any band's last without having the chance to say a proper goodbye?" said Paul earlier this year. For European fans, KISS is no exception in disappointing their fans in just the way they hate seeing other bands do... [View Paul's Q&A | View Gene's Q&A]

Eric Singer-Drummin' for a Living
From: MusiciansUniversity.com
Black Sabbath, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Gary Moore, Lita Ford, Badlands. What do these legendary bands have in common ( OK maybe some aren't exactly legendary) ? All of them, at one time or another have employed a man named Eric Singer as their drummer. Yes, Eric has amassed quite a resume over the years and we haven't even mentioned several of his other professional paying gigs. Gigs such as ESP (the Eric Singer Project), which is a cover band consisting of former Kiss mate Bruce Kulick, and former Motley Crue vocalist John Corabi, both of the band Union, and also Karl Cochran. Eric also did a tour with Brian May, the legendary guitarist of Queen as well as playing on several tribute albums, including tributes to Rod Stewart and Alice Cooper with tributes to Aerosmith and Metallica currently in the works. Gene Simmons Cameo As A Gospel Preacher
From: Shandi
I just wanted to let you know that Gene Simmons was here in Austin Texas at a local mall filming his cameo for the film "The NEW Guy" as a gospel preacher. I and a friend hung out on the set all day and met Gene. He was very polite and signed a painting I did of him and a jean jacket I had painted. He posed for pictures and cut up with us. It has to be one of the best days I have ever had. He seemed to be having a great time and camped up the part. After 8 hrs of filming he was tired and still let me take one more picture. The funniest thing was the first picture he took with me I eneded up with my hand on his ass (I'm kinda short) and he yelled "hey she's grabbing my ass" I turned beet red and he said do it again... The last picture I got with him was at the end of the day and he said "wait your hand's not on my ass" he grabbed my hand and squeezed his ass with it and laughed and grabbed my hair. It was so great of him to be so kind to me I'm no beauty but he made me feel like one. He is and may always be my hero and my idol and I can tell you he looked GREAT!

Woman Files Suit Against KISS
From: Excite.com via Steve Araki
A woman has filed a lawsuit against fire-breathing rock band Kiss, saying she was injured by a broken guitar thrown into the crowd by lead singer Paul Stanley. Carly Miller says she suffered severe damage to her hand when a guitar string got tangled around one of her fingers and fans clamoring for a guitar piece pulled her across two rows of chairs. The lawsuit filed this past week names the band and the arena where the concert took place, as well as three companies linked to the May 8 show, The Grand Rapids Press reported Saturday. An official at the Van Andel Arena declined to discuss the suit, and attempts to reach band representatives were unsuccessful.

Playboy Playmate Carrie Stevens (Eric Carr's Girlfreind) is proud to announce the launch of her new online internet support group on Thursday, November 24. CARRIECARES.COM is a non-profit, online grief support group aiming to support young bereaved persons. The mission of CARRIECARES.COM is to provide friendship and guidance to people who have lost a loved one. The site is intended for young persons but does not exclude anyone who has lost a loved one, is ill, or needs a friend. "The unique voice of the entertainment industry and the internet will enable us to reach out and educate people on self-healing and communicate compassion", says Founder Carrie Stevens. In addition to nurturing friendships, the site will have celebrity involvement including chats with inspirational guests. Celebrities and spiritual healers will recommend books and offer encouraging words. The catalyst for the site was Stevens' former boyfriend, Eric Carr, deceased drummer of the rock band KISS. After his passing, Stevens found it difficult to find support and understanding. She believes CARRIECARES.COM will help people understand the loss they are experiencing, and inspire them to go on with their own lives, as she has. It will be the 9 year anniversary of Eric Carr's passing on November 24. The site will be launched on that day, in tribute.

New KISS Metal Edge Magazine Special
From: KISS ASYLUM
Metal Edge has put out a brand new KISS magazine special called "The Official KISS Farewell Photo Album." The magazine specail includes double sized pull-out posters, 5 concert centerfolds, photos from the 70's, 80's and 90's, a mail in KISS contest to win lots of cool KISS gear and best of all 3 brand new interviews with Gene, Paul and Peter! Interestingly enough, Ace declined to be interviewed for the magazine. Gerri Miller explains, "Ace Frehley, who was given every opportunity to participate, declined to be interviewed and also would not comply with a request for a handwritten message to KISS fans. Whether or not Frehley's erratic behavior on the tour, which includes a nearly-missed show and other on and off-stage incidents, has anything to do with this decision is anyone's guess, but rest assured that a concerted effort was made to change his mind." For those of you wondering the status of the "KISS Alive IV" album and why it is still on the shelf, Gene talks about it in his interview and is quoted as saying "You've got a record company, Universal -- it used to be Mercury/Polygram but was bought, and now it's being bought again by Vivendi, which is part of Canal Plus. Nobody knows who's coming or going. We used to be on Mercury now we're on Def Jam. It's a large company but in war it doesn't matter how many troops you have it only matters if they're trained and have the will to go out and fight. We're not gonna put out a record now because this company is in complete disarray." When asked if the album would be a double album or a single disc Gene said, "There's two albums' worth of material. It's up to the record company, whoever's gonna be at the record company." You can get the new KISS magazine special at your local newsstands or order it only at www.metaledgeonline.com

Bruce Kulick To Play With Grand Funk Railroad
From: Kulick.net
Hello everyone! If you haven't heard already through the various sources of information, Pollstar announced late last week a date for Grand Funk Railroad at a radio show in West Palm Beach, Florida. The unusual thing about this is that yours truly will be playing lead guitar!! I got a call a while back from Don Brewer (drummer and singer of the hit American Band) about getting the band back together for shows, but without Mark Farner. I was flattered, and told him I would think about it. I asked who else was involved and he told me about Max Carl a singer, guitarist, keyboard player who was with 38 Special, and fronted a band for many years called Jack Mack and the Heartattack. Of course Mel Schacher, original bassist, and a keyboard player Tim Cashion, who played with Bob Seger and Robert Palmer. Not a shabby bunch at all, so I had nothing to lose but to fly up to Michigan for a trial run at the songs and meet the guys. After meeting everyone and hanging and playing, I was happy to have gotten the offer. I know a lot of you know the name of the band and maybe some of you know a hit or two from them, but their music is timeless and most of my friends know what great music they created in the 70's. So I agreed to jump on the train, to coin a phrase, to see what would happen. We took some quick press photos, met with a strong agent who loved our rehearsal, and we will see where this whole thing takes the band.

Now on to UNION and my solo music. I finally will have a chance to finish my solo disc in the coming months and that I am extremely happy about. I lost quite a bit of time with family matters as many of you know, but things are calm with that now (thankfully). I still have plans to release AUDIODOG next year (I can't wait). John, Brent and Jamie are all aware and understand this decision, but I will tell you all that the door is not shut with further things happening for the band. I love the music we have created and the band of course had many obstacles to overcome, but I am proud of all of our efforts. The market has made it very tough on all of us, but luckily other members got opportunities which made good sense at the time. So none of you should confuse that with us not caring about our music and our fans. So the year 2001 will be interesting, and I will keep you all posted on developements of course. Thanks for all your support. I hope that my UNION fans and fans of mine from the KISS days will be happy with whatever musical journeys we take, together or apart. If you are curious about GFR and would like to go to a very basic site on them, go to www.grandfunkrailroad.com Thanks again and watch Kulick.net for more info soon. Celebrities In KISS Makeup
From: Steve Steirwalt
For those of you that have been visiting KISS Freaks for awhile you probably remember we teamed up with KISS ASYLUM to show off the KISS makeup artwork of Roch Vaillancourt. The feature started early in 1997 and continued on until around mid 1998. The idea was to take a celebrity`s photo and make them look as if they were wearing the famous greasepaint of our favorite band. It turned into a very successful feature for both sites. Roch started to become busy and was no longer able to do them. Thus leaving us a void in poking fun at other celebrities. Well I decided recently to take my stab at it and I was knocked out by how good some of these turned out. As most of you know on my personal website http://www.digitaltropic.com, I do a lot of tutorials based on using Adobe Photoshop and Corel Photopaint. So I am always experimenting with graphics and design. Just teaching myself and others new things about these great programs. I thought maybe that would be something cool to give a shot. The idea is still the same. We pick a celebrity and cover their face with a KISS member`s face paint. Each month we will feature a new Celebrity in KISS Makeup. So we hope you stop by and give them a look each month. We also will take your suggestions for celebrities to apply the makeup to. Got a suggestion? Send it to stierwalt@fandom.com Comments are also welcome. Check out the current Celebrity in KISS Makeup Carmen Electra If you are interested in checking out some of Roch`s great work from the past head over to KISS ASYLUM's Archive of his work at: http://www.kissasylum.com/photos/

Memorial Tribute: Eric 'The Fox' Carr Remembered By His Family and Close Friends
From: Joop / KISS Kollector Online
As you could've read in the previous issue, a festival in honor of Eric 'The Fox' Carr was being held on August 6, called the FoxxFest 2000. One of the special guests was former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick. During the interview I recently had with Bruce when he spent some time in Holland, we also talked about Eric for a bit: Why was there suddenly so much (well deserved) attention for Eric Carr in 1999, with the release of the Rockheads EP, the Rockology album and the homevideo Tale Of The Fox? "There was no real masterplan. I know it came to Rockology and the EP, that was something that I had some control over because I had the masters. I obviously had all the unfinished Eric music. I was waiting for the time when A) I had the time and B) that I felt that someone made a business offer that made it happen. So, again, no real masterplan for it but at the same time of course his sister Loretta always having people present things to her that she never knew should I do it or shouldn't I do it? The video finally started to come together and it all did come out practically in one year. But it's not like 'Oh, a 10th anniversary or a 9th anniversary', this is just the way it came out. And I was happy to do a song on The Blue Room, you know, Dear Friend. And it was great to do the interviews. Yeah, it seems like a lot of attention. I'm just happy the stuff's out." [More...]

For those of us that didn't fall of the wagon in the 80's and early 90's, there were tons of killer shows; Hot In The Shade, and Revenge tours to name a couple were amazing, and a great part of KISStory. But nothing does compare to the original four, Ace, Paul, Peter and Gene in full costume with the most spectacular live show in history. These photos are all from the World Music Theater in Tinley Park, Illinois, the last KISS show ever in the windy city. All members were in top form. Gene did the " waaaazzzaaaahhh" thing, and busted the entire crowd up, 10,000 people yelling it was pretty hilarious! Paul's voice was strong as ever, Ace was defiantely on, and Peter got a bit choked up during Beth, telling us how it would be the last time he ever sang it to us. He ended up talking through the beginning of the song. He also had a tear painted on his face tonight. I'm sure it is sad for him knowing the end is not far off now. All in all I had a great time on the farewell tour, and all those before it, just like the other millions out there, I will miss those four guys something terrible, but we will always have the memories ringing loudly in our ears. I hope you all have enjoyed viewing my photos as much as I did taking them all. Email me if you have any questions or just want to talk KISS!!! Enjoy!!! [View The Photos...]

Sound Off KISS Army
KISS ASYLUM wanted to open the door to other writers out there and give them a place where they can voice their opinions about KISS. We bet there are more than a few of you who have at least one KISS related topic burning in you that you'd love to write a one time piece about. Well, KISS ASYLUM is happy to bring to you a forum in which to do so in our new feature "SOUND OFF!" KISS ARMY.

KISS Thought Vault
The "Summertime Memories" Kiss Thought Vault finds Ron Albanese waxing nostalgic over summers past, by way of release dates and pinball. A certain starry-eyed little girl also secures her place in Vault history. Also mentioned: The Harlem Globetrotters.

What I have in store for you is a real treat. What you are about to read is an interview I recently completed with WNEW DJ (and fellow NJ resident) Ed Trunk.
