KISS will be the subject of a two-hour documentary on VH1 this summer called KISS: The Hottest Band in the World, which is being produced by Tommy Thayer, the band's tour manager and long-time associate who also previously produced the Second Coming DVD/VHS and the Showtime pay-per-view special. Thayer is also producing on the long-awaited KISS boxed set, which will be out later this year, and confirms there's "a good chance" there will be future dates in "other parts of the world to complete the Farewell Tour." Speaking of retrospectives, Universal Music will release an Ultimate Millennium Collection compilation on Thayer's old band Black 'N Blue, featuring 20 tracks from the four hard-to-find albums the band released through Geffen Records. On another KISS note, Gene Simmons will be interviewed on the Lifetime Intimate Portrait episode focusing on actress Katey Sagal (of Married...WIth Children), which will air May 8 at 10-11 AM ET on the Lifetime channel. LOS ANGELES (AP) - VH1 is getting behind the music - and replacing a lot of it with comedies and dramas. The cable network announced it plans to debut a slate of original programming over the next year that includes scripted series, reality shows and feature-length films. ``We tried really hard to make sure that all our new shows are fundamentally about music,'' said Lauren Zalaznick, head of original programming at the music channel. Among the new programs is the drama ``Pulling the Strings,'' which stars James Brolin as a beleaguered entertainment mogul. Brolin will co-produce the show with his wife, Barbra Streisand. Other shows include the animated ``Camp Chaos,'' which will parody chart-topping musicians; ``Hit Men,'' a drama about the mob and the music business, produced by KISS frontman Gene Simmons; and ``Devil's Music'' about an apostate of hell who persuades musicians to sell their souls for success. While KISS takes a breather from their ongoing 'Farewell' tour, drummer Eric Singer will stay on the road playing for Alice Cooper in Europe from now until late May. Cooper asked Singer and the rest of KISS if Eric could play in Alice's back up band since he was left without a drummer for the overseas trek. Singer will then rejoin KISS when their tour resumes. "Eric Singer was born Eric D. Mensinger, the son of John and ??, in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 12th, 1958. With a musical family surrounding him, Eric started playing drums when he was 11 years old. About his family Eric states, "my father was a bandleader and a tenor sax player who originally played in a society band, playing what was then called society music. He worked for a well-known bandleader in New York, and he used to work on cross-Atlantic cruises. Everybody traveled on those ships - royalty, movie stars, dignitaries - and my Dad would meet everyone because he ran the band. I just watched Gene Simmons on "Turn Ben Stein On" and he was just great. They didn't speak much about Kiss, mostly discussing Gene's life from childhood to superstar. Ben mentioned that Kiss was either Satanic or related to the Devil several times in passing and Gene always looked a little disturbed that people still seem to think that. Gene tried for a minute to dispell those rumors by saying that Kiss is about being larger than life (not devil worship) but moved on into his perceptions of America as a child from there. They discussed Gene's mother quite a bit and Ben mentioned that She is a concentration camp survivor. Gene declined to discuss that and it seemed like a painfull memory best left in the past. Overall, this was one of the best interviews with Gene I have ever seen. He was very polite, down to earth, and dignified. Still, no matter how humble he tried to be, he commanded everyone's attention. If you missed it, I would highly reccomend catching it on a re-run. [Post Your Comments]

May 18, 1990 Michigan Palace of Auburn Hills, this is one of the two pro-shot videos that have surfaced from this tour. My secret spy source says more do exist so my question is - WHERE ARE THEY!!! The other date of the two existing pro-shots is Oct 1990. This video I will be reviewing is the mint concert of the 2 shows. This one having no dropouts or defects, unlike the October (AKA 2nd Night) video. The only musical differences between nights 1 & 2 are a minor set list change, (dropping the odd & rare inclusion of "Under The Gun" and addition of a more well-known song, "I Was Made For Loving You" & of course Eric Carr's incredible drum solo). Sadly the 2nd night has a really bad audio buzz throughout the whole video. If a nice soundboard audio recording ever surfaced it would be awesome if someone could remaster the video with a clean audio track. (Hint, Hint). The show itself has all the making of a great KISS show and performance so without wasting time here let's go to the track by track analysis you've all grown so accustomed to. THE KISS Army came expecting something special - and they got it. More than 20,000 fans aged six to 60 soaked up 140 minutes of the last Kiss-off at Carrara Stadium last night. KISS - 28 years old and still pumping at more than 70dB (the council's limit) showed why they are one of the world's legendary rock bands. And the Gold Coast proved again it is the equal of any city in the nation at holding world class events. This was the classic rock and roll of the 70s and 80s - no mosh pit, no crowd surfing and seemingly no trouble without a uniformed policeman in sight. A bare-chested Gene Simmons implored the Gold Coast audience to enjoy the night as though it was the band's first concert and not their last. Women in the crowd even threw underwear on stage a-la Tom Jones as the Kiss juggernaut rolled through songs from 31 albums that had notched up a staggering 90 million album sales. Fans from New Zealand, the USA and Europe mingled with Gold Coasters and Australians from all parts of the nation all in a happy holiday mood. KISS - The Vintage

This 41 minute DVD features a close-up look at one of the most influential and amazing rock bands ever to grace the stage. Go behind the scenes with Kiss and discover their reason for the make up, the visions they had, and the message they wanted to convey to their fans as they went into the studios to record. Discover the true history of the band and discover the real reasons Peter Criss left the band and their unpleasant task of finding a replacement drummer. Then, witness the rejoining forces in 2000 with all the original members of the band as they storm America during their Farewell Tour in a final tribute to the fans! As a special bonus, there are two silent film segments from live performances during the height of the band's popularity from 1974-1977 that say more to fans than any words could ever convey. The first is a Super 8mm segment shot by a fan in Colorado during their Love Gun Tour. The second, a 16 minute piece, contains rare and never-before-seen footage tracked down through an Ebay auction. This live footage has been ressurected from a 27 year-old vault and is presented in live raw footage.

" Carr--whose real name was Paul Caravello--answered Kiss' advertisement seeking a replacement for drummer Peter "Catman" Criss. �After joining Kiss in mid 1980, Caravello's stage name was created along with his makeup persona known as the Fox. �From late 1983 until Eric's death in 1991 from cancer, Kiss toured the world and recorded several albums (Lick it Up, Animalize, Asylum, Crazy Nights, Smashes Thrashes & Hits, and Hot in the Shade) without their infamous kabuki makeup. The Eric Carr Commemorative Trading Card Set will be released on April 29, 2001 and is strictly limited to 1,000 sets. "With the loss of his record deal, Ace Frehley entered the 1990's in a state that couldn't possibly get any worse than it already was. Not only had Megaforce dropped him due to poor performance of his recorded material over the past four years since signing him in late 1986, but the guiding light of his solo career, bassist John Regan, had left the Comet, finally having had enough of Ace's antics. John had single handedly kept the comet rolling during the 1980's, and now his role would be left to be filled by some people who, while willing, lacked the business acumen that John had. Over the last few months Fandom has been on a rollercoaster ride. Well it looks as if the ride is about to end. Basically it seems Fandom just ran out of money. Since joining up with Fandom a couple years ago the KISS Freaks site has really grown. We were able to offer some new and very cool pieces of content to the site, due to the our great exposure with the Fandom alliance. I had a blast having the site as part of Fandom. I am very proud of everything I did with them. I would like to thank Chip Meyers and Will Plyer for asking me to take part and all of their support when they were still involved with Fandom. Too bad things didn't turn out like the original idea. So now we come to the future of KISS Freaks. KISS Freaks has been around since February 1996. Five years of covering the greatest band to ever grace a stage. There have been many ups and downs because of the site. I wouldn't change a minute of it. I have met a ton of fantastic people due to running KISS Freaks. Now the big decision. I have been considering closing KISS Freaks, for a while now. As you know if you visit the site often enough, I am the master of outside projects. I've always got something going on, totally unrelated to KISS. The decision I need to make over the coming weeks is how much effort I want to continue to put into KISS Freaks. I have a new son that is ten months old, a wife, a new job which is great, buying a new home, another successful site in Digital Tropic and not a whole lot of free time. In this day and age of the Internet if you have a site that gets the amount of traffic KISS Freaks gets, you do whatever you can to continue it. So that really creates the conflict for me. If I do continue to run the KISS Freaks site, it will probably be a lot different than what you are used to seeing. I no longer feel the need to keep up with the "news." I would much rather focus on being creative and showing off the fans work. That's how the site started anyway. Its not really about the band, its about the fans that make them great. In the next couple weeks I will make the decision on the future of KISS Freaks, so keep checking in to find out the status of KISS Freaks. Two More Guests Confirmed for New Jersey KISS and Hard Rock Convention, happening at the Rothman Center in Hackensack, NJ on Sunday April 29th. KISS will continue their Farewell Tour after Australia including a massive show at Moscow's Red Square. In an exclusive interview webcast with radioundercover.com Gene Simmons told fans "we are going to Red Square in Moscow for probably 200.000 people - which will be our first time there. There have been festivals there before with ten bands - Ozzy and Motley Crue and Bon Jovi - lots of bands altogether. We're just going there by ourselves and the Government is already making some noise over there about the security because it's way over the top and I guess people want to see the band one last time". "We'll go through Europe and visit some of our friends there and perhaps finish it off at Shea Stadium in New York City". Simmons was also brutally frank when he discussed the departure of Peter Criss from the band. "There are no villains and there are no victims" he said. As some of you may remember, I wrote the original KISS novel, A WORLD WITHOUT HEROES, back in 1998-1999 as really just something fun to take my mind off of other pressing writing projects. Chris, Beth and John here at KISS ASYLUM were kind enough to present the chapters here on a regular basis at the time and as it turned out, the book ended up becoming a successful project for KAOL (www.kissarmyonline.com), with illustrations and even a CD of original covers done by a variety of excellent fan-artists (and I recommend getting the book just for the CD if nothing else).When that novel was finished, I thought my work was done and I could sit back and relax. However, I began getting a lot of letters and emails from people who were asking when I would start on a sequel. Frankly, I never planned on one. I thought the story I wanted to tell was all there in the first novel and there was no need to do anything more. Besides, I had my other writing projects to worry about and this was more of a kick than a job, so I just never thought it would happen and told people as much over the past year.That changed earlier this year when it occurred to me that perhaps there were some questions left unanswered in the first novel that would be worth considering for a sequel. Add that to the fact that I ended the original novel in 1985 and never resolved what happened to the final Talisman, and ideas started clicking away in my head. So here's the result, and I dedicate it to everyone that kept asking me when a sequel was going to come out. If you want anyone to blame, blame them! To those of you coming back after the first one, I hope you'll enjoy this one as much or even more than the first; for those who are first-timers, I hope you'll want to go back to the first novel sometime to see what had happened before. To all, I would be interested in your comments when and if you have any to make. Just don't start mentioning about "finishing up the trilogy" after this one is finished!
