As KISS ASYLUM reported earlier this week there is a new Holiday Inn Express TV ad in which KISS is the basis. The new commercial focuses on what appears to be a rock concert featuring the famous group KISS and some unexpected post-concert revelations. The spot, in both 30- and 60-second executions, opens with eye-grabbing shots of the final moments of a KISS concert and then follows the band members off stage and into their dressing room, where a classic, old-school manager with that wonderfully-cynical New Yawk accent animatedly lectures them on what a fabulous show they've just completed and whets their appetite for the possibility of a world tour. But suddenly a look of perplexed horror crosses the manager's face as he eyes the band members removing their costumes and makeup. Dumbfounded, he realizes they aren't the musicians he manages. When the manager barks ''You guys aren't KISS,'' the Paul Stanley imposter responds, ''No, but we did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.'' KISS' Gene Simmons said he will produce a film version of Neil Bogart's life story for Paramount Pictures. The serpentine-tongued bassist has been working on the film for 14 months, although a production date has yet to be determined. When the film gets to the casting stage, Simmons said he'd like either Mike Myers or Kevin Spacey to play the over-the-top hitmaker. The Bogart biopic isn't the only thing on Simmons' groaning board. He cites 18 projects on his to-do list, among them a VH1 series called "Hit Men," which he described as "the Sopranos meet the music industry," and the feature film "November Files," a conspiracy thriller about an accountant tangled up in a multinational money-laundering scheme. Simmons' autobiography, "Kiss and Makeup," is slated to hit shelves in January. Ghostwritten by The New Yorker editor Ben Greenman, the tome is a "stranger in a strange land" story, beginning with Simmons' birth in Israel. Two MTV programs are also in the works: the original movie "Groupies," about a rock-star perquisite Simmons knows intimately, and "Gene Simmons' Chill-O-Rama," an anthology series in the vein of "The Twilight Zone." SCOTTSDALE - The world famous KISS Prowler and KISS Music Box Trailer will be up for auction at the Petersen Automotive Museum auction in Los Angeles, June 15th & 16th. The KISS Prowler, a custom built vehicle created to promote the world famous rock band's Psycho Circus tour, was a collaboration between the members of "KISS", McGhee Entertainment the rock band's manager, and TGF MetalCrafters Inc, a leading concept car builder for the DaimlerChrysler Corporation. Never ones to miss a PR opportunity, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss (members of the band KISS), gave the KISSmobile away in a contest that attracted worldwide attention. Originally titled to KISS Motors Limited, the 300th Prowler built was given to the skilled craftsmen at MetalCrafters state-of-the-art facility to do their magic. Fitted with a high-output 3.5 litre V-6 engine and finished in Black Crystal, the Prowler body was fabricated with front and side ground effects, custom grille with chrome inserts, moulded hood louvers, rear spoiler with integrated LED brake light and a custom rear lower valance. Interior accessories were added along with the word KISS embroidered in the driver and passenger seats and the floor mats. A remote 10disc CD changer was located in a customized trailer. The matching KISS Music Box Customized Trailer has a wireless remote controlled opening device to reveal three custom compartments for Simmons, Frehley and Stanley's guitars. Musical instrument components installed include; a 12 channel mixing console, stereo power amp, cordless microphone and receiver unit, multi effects unit, Boss drum machine and a Marshall guitar rack mount amplifier. The KISS Prowler and Music Box Trailer will be auctioned complete with a set of KISS band member's signature guitars, along with a collection of the much sought after limited edition KISS Prowler die-cast collectible cars that were introduced at the time of the give-away contest. Featured on TV, in a KISS promotional video, and at KISS public appearances and in numerous magazines, the KISS Prowler is considered by KISS experts and memorabilia appraisers as one of the rarest, valuable, and most desirable pieces of KISS memorabilia. It may not be an obvious or particularly effective means of selling hotel rooms, but Holiday Inn Express will generate plenty of brand awareness with its outrageous new spot, ''KISS,'' from Fallon/Minneapolis. In ad circles, Fallon is well known for pushing the creative envelope. Holiday Inn Express and its parent United Kingdom-based Bass Hotels & Resorts clearly have given the agency plenty of creative freedom to do new executions of the hotel chain's four-year-old ''Stay Smart''-themed campaign. As its title suggests, the newest commercial in that campaign focuses on what appears to be a rock concert featuring the famous group KISS and some unexpected post-concert revelations. According to Fallon, the ''KISS'' spot and eight others that preceded it in the campaign show ordinary people in situations that allow them to exhibit newly enhanced intelligence, skill or artistic ability after having stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. I don't know about you, but that seems rather a lot to expect from a bed, maybe some chairs or a sofa, a tv and a bathroom. Hello. This story was written in the New York Daily News newspaper on Monday, May 28,2001, page 16, reported by Mitchell Fink. "The disco beat goes on in biopic." Every time you listen to the bubblegum tunes and the disco music that ruled the airwaves in the '60s and '70s, you have Neil Bogart to thank- or to blame, depending on your tastes. Bogart was the mastermind behind those genres. And perhaps no one knows that better than Gene Simmons, the lizard-tongued bassist of KISS, who got his start in the business becuase Bogart sensed that Simmons' outrageously dressed band would quickly build a fan base. Now Simmons is prepping a movie based on Bogart's life for Paramount. Bogart, who died of Cancer in 1983 at age 39, was one of the record industry's renaissance men. A co-founder of Buddha Records, Bogart bucked the psychedelic musical tide of the late '60s and struck gold by releasing a string of bubblegum singles (e.g., "Chewy, Chewy," Simon Says") by such now-forgotten groups as Ohio Express and the 1910 Fruitgum Co. Bogart was also largely responsible for the '75 disco explosion after persuading radio stations to play the 16-minute version of "Love to Love You Baby," by a then-unknown Donna Summer. Two years earlier, Bogart had moved to Los Angeles from New York and founded the Casablanca label. The first act he signed to the label was KISS. "He was the first grownup who said to me that I was capable of a lot more in my life than just drooling blood and sticking out my tongue onstage," said Simmons, who views Bogart as a character in the P.T.Barnum mode. "We wore more make-up than most clowns, higher heels than most women and more leather than you normally find in an S&M bar. Neil was honest enough to admit that he didn't get us. But he gambled on out passion." Now Simmons is gambling on the notion that Bogart's story will go over with a movie audience. Paramount got a first draft of the script three weeks ago. Like a lot of producers in Hollywood, Simmons is waiting to hear wether his project is a go. In Oktober 1998 Kiss Army Norway started a monthly KissPub! (we called it "Pub Of 1000 Faces") in Oslo. It started out as just a place for Kissfans to meet once a month to talk about their favorite band, hear music and have a drink :) It has been very successfull with KISS KARAOKE , cover bands and a guest apparence by Bruce Kulick in 99. We are know taking the "Pub Of 1000 Faces" out on a Norwegian tour!! under the name "KISS FARWELL PARTY TOUR 2001" we started in February and will visit all the bigger cities in Norway.(and some small ones !! like Batsfjord! way up there in the north) So far we have had sold out crowds in Bergen , Stavanger , Trondheim and in Batsfjord (Who by the way was the Northest KISS party EVER to be held, the town has about 2600 residents and we managed to sell out the venue approx 220 people showed up!! pretty amazing.) Just reading my copy of "The Dirt." This is what an autobiography should be like with no stones unturned. Kiss is mentioned early on by Mick Mars who said he didn't like Nikki at first cause he liked Kiss and Mick hates Kiss. Another mention comes a few chapters later when Nikki was writing about opening for Kiss on the Creatures tour and that they were kicked off for bad behavior. Also mentioned by Nikki was that Gene called him as he wrote that chapter wanting the film rights to "The Dirt" and the exclusive rights to the story of Motley Crue for an eternity, which is pretty funny to read. NEW YORK (Variety) - Fire-breathing, tongue-wagging KISS frontman Gene Simmons is set to publish his autobiography, Crown has bought the rock star's memoirs, "Kiss and Make Up," and will publish 100,000 copies of the book next January. Simmons, who was born Chaim Witz in Israel, is the son of a concentration camp survivor. "Kiss and Make Up" will recount his poverty-stricken childhood, the rise and fall of KISS and his romances with such women as Cher and Diana Ross. In 1999 while performing in the lead role in Phantom of the Opera in Toronto, Paul was introduced to AboutFace. AboutFace represents all people with facial differences. Their members include those with congenital conditions present at birth or through illness, disease or accident. Impressed by the work of the organization and reflecting on his own challenges as a child (Paul was born with microtia) Paul agreed to help spread the word on behalf of people with facial differences as the honorary spokesperson of AboutFace International. In May 2001, Paul was back in Toronto to film "Unwrapping The Package". Paul and a special audience of children with facial differences filmed this video available for schools in the fall that deals with people with different appearances. AboutFace relies on support from individuals and organizations to continue its programs in communities across Canada. Stan Penridge

Stan "Doc" Penridge, musician, producer and co-writer of several songs for the rock band KISS, including their top-ten single "Beth", died in his sleep May 11 at his home in Austin, Texas. He was 50 years old. Penridge began his musical career upon moving to the New York area in the late 1960s. In 1970, he joined the band Chelsea, which featured a drummer who was already going by the stage name Peter Criss. Penridge and Criss continued working together, in Chelsea and other musical groups, until 1972 when Criss joined Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons in a band that would evolve into KISS. Penridge moved on to work with other bands, both rock and country, but was invited into the KISS circle when the band decided to record a song he and Criss had written back in their Chelsea days. As Penridge related later, the ballad had originally been written as a joke about another band member’s wife named Becky, who would continuously interrupt band practices with requests for her husband to come home. In 1976, Penridge, Criss and producer Bob Ezrin rewrote the song as the sentimental ballad "Beth", which is still heard today on many radio stations. It appeared on the DESTROYER album and became a Top-Ten hit, helping propel the band beyond cult status with hard-rock fans to the mainstream of public consciousness. [More...] [Post Your Comments]

I had the incredible honor of attending the Bronx Walk of Fame for Ace Frehley as well as 9 or 10 other celebrities. Ace pulled up in a limo about 10:00 am and was met by fans at the steps of the Court House. He was quickly escorted upstairs to join the other celebrities for their champagne brunch. At the brunch, Ace appeared tired and commented that he was at the award dinner on Saturday night until 4:00am. At the brunch I had the opportunity to ask him a few questions. I felt that this was a day to honor Ace and his personal achievements, not really Kiss related, so I kept the interview to his future plans. Some of the more interesting topics that came from our talk was that he still has plans travel to outer space. He said that he has had visions for years, of himself looking out the window of the shuttle down upon earth. He said that before he dies he will travel to outer space. He also told me that his solo LP was in the works, but didn't know when it would be out.

At about 11:00 Ace came down on the elevator to greet fans in the courthouse lobby. He was gracious enough to sign for all his fans and even took photos with them. He made sure that all his fans who were there to support him, got an autograph! It was incredible moment for everyone! It was an incredible moment for me! Shortly after, he was whisked away to join the other celebrities in a ceremony to receive their awards. When he received his, he made a short speech thanking everyone who came and the Bronx Borough for bestowing this honor on him. He seemed very delighted and truly touched. After the ceremony, the entire auditorium of about 200 people, went outside to conduct the unveiling of the street signs for each of celebrities. There was a sign on every corner, honoring each celebrity. A large group of people walked from corner to corner where an officer of the Bronx Borough stood with celebrity and unveiled their signed. When it was time to unveil Ace's sign, the crowd went crazy, and took tons of photos and chanted his name. Ace looked very pleased and thrilled when he saw his name on the sign. Jokingly, he said that his name on the sign needed to be made larger! The crowd went wild. Right after the unveiling, the crowd began to surrond Ace asking for more autographs and photos. I must say at that point it started to get a little overwhelming so a bodyguard escorted him to his limo and he took off. Ace was a complete super star today and showed his true color to the Bronx officials and the Kiss fans alike. All I can say is congratulation and thanks Ace! I also want to thank everyone at the Office of the Bronx Borough President for inviting me to the event and allowing me to attend the brunch where I was able to spend some one-on-one quality time with one of my greatest heroes, Ace Frehley. The comedian/impressionist who does the "Al Pacino's Baby" character also does a Gene voice that sounds just like him when he's doing a serious interview. Every chance he got he would chime in and take credit for everything claiming that "Kiss started it all" and influenced the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. KISS' Ace Frehley will be formally inducted into the Bronx Walk of Fame at a ceremony on May 20 at 11:30 AM at the Grand Concourse and 161st St. in the New York borough. The honor is given by the Bronx Historical Society to recognize Bronx natives who've made a mark on the world and is commemorated by a plaque.The event is open to the public. Hi Kiss Family/Army The 2001 Kiss expo was awesome they had 3 bands play this year one of which, I know very well there called NYB (none of your business) produced by no other then the emperor of rock and roll Richie Scarlet himself. NYB were the opening band at the 2001 Kiss Expo in NJ, they kicked butt played 4 songs off there fall release debut album called (In your Face) plus they played a remediation of 100,000 years by kiss with a drum solo that brought back the vibe from kiss Alive one album Peter Criss style. NYB is Doug Palmer / vocals, Jonnie Feedback / Lead Guitar, Johnny P/ Drums and vocals and Davey D / Bass Guitar they play all original songs tilted War on the streets, Rock and Roll Heaven and Witch Doctor. the crowd went crazy while they played and they gave out free demo CD's of the band to the fan's also Rock kandy rocked the kiss expo playing some hit's from the 80's and Double Platinum finished the night off the demon from the WCW was also there signing autographs meeting the fans and Eddie trunk, Karl Cochran, Dennis Wolock, and Doro Pesch, Angel and of course Bruce Kulick was in attendance signing copy's of his new Audio Dog CD greeting fans and chatting to fans and also granted an interview for Staten Island Cable for a kiss special, in NYC . I am putting together on public access with a friend, also Goddess of thunder from the Vh1 kiss special was in attendance with her friend Rockin Girl. Goddess was done up with her familiar Gene and Rockin Girl in her Paul and my dear friend Andora was in Ace attire all put together with all the dealer merchandise dealers that made up a great expo until next year expo Rock on and Peace out. An independent Kiss Army film is currently underway intended for the die-hard Kiss fanatics. It's "The ultimate fanatic movie about the ultimate fanatics" about a couple of adults, members of the Kiss Army who are best friends and get together for a road trip to the final destination of the last ever Kiss show. Along the way they clash against one another, then clash against other members of Kiss fans, battling obstacles that stand in their way of reaching their "final destination" and will be a direct to video/dvd comedy flick and is sure to be a pleasure to the fans who appreciate the in-depths of Kiss and members of the Kiss fans, both old and new alike. (NOTE: We realize that by the description of the movie, "DETROIT ROCK CITY" comes to mind. IT'S NOTHING LIKE "DRC" AT ALL." In the tradition of "By the fans, for the fans.", rather than using actual Kiss songs for the soundtrack, we are starting today, enlistening the opportunity for all Kiss fans who happen to be musicians themselves to submit a clear, coherant copy of their song(s) that are based on Kiss, songs about Kiss, being inspired by Kiss, etc... (NOTE: No Kiss cover songs allowed). 10-12 songs will be chosen for the soundtrack, a couple of which might actually be used in the film itself. For those whose songs that are included on the soundtrack will receive a free copy of the movie and the soundtrack.(NOTE: Only one copy will be sent per artist or band.) Drummer to appear in fifth season of HBO drama. KISS drummer Peter Criss recently shed his band's trademark makeup and platform space boots in favor of a jailhouse jumpsuit. The rocker will guest star on the fifth season of the HBO prison series "Oz," the cable channel announced. Criss, who has already filmed two episodes and may do more, plays convict Martin Montgomery and will have beef with Dean Winters' character, Ryan O'Reily. Criss' last role in front of the camera was as himself in 1999's "Detroit Rock City." He previously had parts in "Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park" and on an episode of the defunct TV series "Millennium." Criss joins a long line of musical performers that have walked the dismal halls of "Oz"'s main setting, the "Em City" unit of Oswald State Penitentiary. Last year, rappers Method Man, Lord Jamar and Master P all appeared on the show, and LL Cool J and Naughty by Nature's Treach have had brief roles on the series. Evan Seinfeld of hardcore rockers Biohazard has become a regular on the program as biker Jaz Hoyt. A spokesperson for HBO said the show's producers are still casting and hope to make more additions to cast before production wraps. New episodes are currently being filmed in Bayonne, New Jersey, and HBO said the fifth season of "Oz" will begin airing either later this year or early next year. [Post Your Comments]

An unlikely combination? Not really. The KISS Army OnLine (KAOL) just donated another $2,000 to the Massachusetts Alzheimer's Association on April 24th stemming from the sales of the newest KISS Tribute CD released earlier this year, "KAOL 3 - The Spirit of '78". That double CD set, celebrating the music of KISS' 1978 solo albums, sold out of the first pressing immediately and is now in its second print. Our total donations to Alzheimer's Disease is $7,000 and going strong. Two of us representing the KISS Army flew to Massachusetts to attend the Alzheimer's event where the plaque bearing the name of KAOL was unveiled. The night was one to remember. Other donors were present in the audience and each had a personal story to tell of their experience with losing a family member and their dedication to helping raise awareness. I'm the producer of the KAOL tribute CDs and those of you who know me or who have bought "The Spirit of '78", know that I lost my own grandfather to this disease. Well, that night I brought my grandmother to the ceremony and as an added twist, made her wear a KISS T-shirt for a photo session taken for the Alzheimer's newsletter! I told her that all of the KISS fans out here in cyberspace were the ones that bought the KAOL CD and allowed us to raise so much money and it was only right she show her appreciation with the t-shirt. What a sport she was! LOL... How many people can say their 72 year old grandmother dresses in KISS attire??? There's photos on the website for proof! Hello all Audio Dogs! Thanks for the orders and the reviews. They keep coming in and it is so cool to read your comments on the disc. I want to thank Ed Trunk in NY for two hours of co-hosting his show on WNEW in NY on Saturday night. We had a great time. The big NJ expo was great, and I sold all the Cd's I brought with me! Thanks to Richie, The Demon, and Smallie Paulie from the Howard Stern show for helping me take care of things in NJ. Many of the fans commented on hearing it on the radio the night before, so that was so good to hear. You hear something on the radio you like, you buy it the next day. EXCELLENT!!
