KISS reconsider retirement, plan tour - Paul Stanley says the band will put the face paint on again, three years after farewell tour
From: Entertainment Weekly
Nearly three years ago, after a long and storied career, Kiss launched a worldwide farewell tour, with bassist Gene Simmons saying the band wanted to go out on top. Now, however, it looks like they want to go out again. On the band's website, guitarist Paul Stanley says the band still wants to rock and roll all night, and party ev-e-ry day. "People do change their minds, and in this case that goes along with being a living, thinking person," writes Stanley, explaining the about-face. "What one says one day with total commitment may at another time turn out not to be so. Am I doing this for the money or the fans? BOTH, and let's not forget I'm doing this for me. That is the reason I originally started playing: because I wanted to, and only I can decide ultimately when to stop." Aside from a February appearance at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Kiss have not performed together since the farewell tour ended in Australia in spring 2001. Since the "final" tour, Simmons published a memoir, "Kiss and Make-Up," which included big kiss-offs to guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss, whom Simmons called unprofessional musicians and drug addicts. New dates have not been announced, but Launch.com reports that the band would likely tour in the fall and winter, in support of "The Very Best of Kiss," a 20-track greatest hits collection that hits stores Aug. 27. Presumably, Criss (whom the band fired partway through the farewell tour) and Frehley won't be participating.

Gene Simmons Comic Book Signing Report
From: John@mykissarmy.com
Gene Simmons I went to the Gene Simmons Comic Book signing at Universal City Walk in Los Angeles, California on July 27, 2002. It was another great experience. I got there around 10:30 A.M., Gene started signing at 3 P.M. They allowed you to have one "personal" item signed and as many comic books as you wanted. The comic books come with three different covers. The first is a cartoon cover, like the inside of the book. The second is a photo of Kiss and the third is a different photo of Kiss which is a special San Diego Comic Convention cover. They ran out of the San Diego edition fairly quickly, so I was able to get the other two covers. There were about 20 people in front of us in line. When it was our turn to meet Gene, he was so friendly. He would sign anything that you wanted. He spent a lot of time talking to his fans. He was talking to people on cellular telephones and posing with some people for pictures. I chose to get my Kiss picture disc "Alive II" signed and my comic books. Gene was very friendly and willing to spend a lot of time with his fans. Overall, it was a great experience. See the pictures at www.MyKissArmy.com

KISS Not Quitting Anytime Soon
From: Billboard.com
Will it ever end? That's the question Kiss fans have been asking since the band announced back in early 2000 that it would say goodbye to the road. Since then, Kiss spent months out on various legs of its farewell tour, then disappeared from the arena scene for a while. The Gene Simmons/Paul Stanley-led act last performed in February during the closing ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, and although details of definitive final shows seemed to be forthcoming, none have arrived. Recently Stanley wrote in his "Paul Speaks" Q&A column on the official Kiss Web site that the band is planning to hit the road again, and, at this point, plans to actually hang up the platform boots and costumes may have been scuttled. "People change their minds, and in this case that goes along with being a living, thinking person," the singer/guitarist writes about the decision to tour again. "What one says one day with total commitment may at another time turn out not to be so. "Am I doing this for the money or the fans? Both, and let's not forget I'm doing this for me," Stanley continues, answering his own question, and one on the minds of many fans. "That is the reason I originally started playing: because I wanted to, and only I can decide ultimately when to stop. As you know (assuming that you have a job), it is great to have both the appreciation of those around you and to be compensated financially." No dates for a tour have been confirmed, nor is it known whether or not Stanley, bassist/singer Simmons, and original guitarist Ace Frehley would be joined by original drummer Peter Criss, who did not perform on a Japan/Australia leg of the Farewell Tour last year. That Whole Farewell Thing? We Changed Our Minds, KISS Say
From: VH1.com
With KISS, it seems too much is never enough. There have been no shortage of Kiss greatest-hits discs over the years, but that's not stopping them from issuing yet another, The Very Best of Kiss, on August 27. Unlike some past best-of discs, which have featured either the band's early material or their less-praised '80s fare, but rarely both, the new record chronicles the band's entire career, from early singles like "Strutter" and "Deuce" to "Lick It Up" and "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You II." Chances are there will be even more greatest hits records to come because Kiss will probably be making music and touring until Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are buried in their Kiss Kaskets. They're in talks with labels about releasing a new Kiss record, and they recently recorded a version of "Rock N Roll Radio" for an upcoming Ramones cover album. [More...]

Paul Stanley Discusses Forthcoming Tour; Ramones Tribute Album
From: KNAC.com
Blabbermouth.net reports the following Kiss news from Paul Stanley: Kiss frontman Paul Stanley has admitted that he and bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons have changed their minds about "going out on top" with the group's never-ending Farewell tour, but has denied that money is the sole motivating factor behind the decision to keep touring. "People do change their minds and in this case that goes along with being a living, thinking person," Stanley stated in a question-and-answer session posted on Kiss' official web site. "What one says one day with total commitment may at another time turn out not to be so. Am I doing this for the money or the fans? BOTH, and let's not forget I'm doing this for me. That is the reason I originally started playing: because I wanted to, and only I can decide ultimately when to stop. As you know (assuming that you have a job) it is great to have both the appreciation of those around you and to be compensated financially." Stanley also shed some more light on Kiss' contribution to the upcoming The Ramones tribute album, We're a Happy Family, which includes the group's rendition of the classic "Do You Remember Rock & Roll Radio?" "I frequently run into Johnny Ramone and about a month ago he told me about the The Ramones tribute album and asked if we would participate. I can remember our club days and seeing Joey Ramone standing a head above everyone else! Having come after us, we certainly can't say we were influenced by them, but they were from New York and this seemed like a fun project. Gene, [drummer] Eric [Singer] and I recorded a track called ['Do You Remember Rock & Roll Radio?'] We used a big saxophone section done by Scott Paige who tours with Pink Floyd and Derek Sherinian on piano, you may remember him from playing keys on the Revenge tour. Gene and I trade off vocals, and I have to say this is as cool and kick ass as it gets! It's a really cool track and I think you'll love it!"

Gene Simmons: The Latest Lifestyle Guru
From: Foxnews.com
NEW YORK - KISS bassist Gene Simmons might seem an unlikely successor to Martha Stewart or Oprah Winfrey. But that's exactly what he's angling to be. With the recent launch of his quarterly magazine Gene Simmons Tongue, a book imprint bearing his name, talk of a TV deal and plans for a clothing line, the frequently vulgar, unabashedly frank rock star says he's on a mission to brand himself as a lifestyle. Despite Stewart's recent legal and PR troubles, Simmons says he's modeling himself after the domestic diva. "Martha Stewart means something and I'd like to think that Gene Simmons means something too," Simmons, 52, said in a phone interview. Judging from the group of Playmates gracing Tongue's cover, Simmons' boasts about sleeping with more than 4,600 women - despite being married - and the number of times he mentions sex, it's not hard to figure out at least part of what lifestyle he represents. "It's about choice and the value of life: good food, deep breaths, beautiful women - and not just one, either," he said. "I don't just want to make love to you. I want to make love to you, your sister and your mommy." [More...] [Post Your Comments]

New Jersey Book Author Meets Magic Mountain
From: the-signal.com via Ron Albanese
It was a pilgrimage into rock'n roll history to remember as confessed "Kiss" zealot Ron Albanese recently paid a visit to Six Flags Magic Mountain for the trip of a lifetime. The now famous X-treme Park was once the backdrop to the campy 1978 made-for-T.V. movie, "Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park, which first aired on NBC, in 1978. Mixing research with pleasure, Albanese, a New Jersey based pop-culture journalist, is completing work on his new book, "Easy Catman, They are Serious: The Complete Guide to Kiss Meets the Phantom" slated to be released in 2003 to coincide with the film's 25th anniversary. "I'm the new Phantom of the park," said Albanese, adding that "Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park" is enjoying a second life as a cult classic. Albanese, along with his body guard, Kenny Millroy, flew in to Los Angeles from their home in Hoboken New Jersey to visit the park for the very first time. An Albanese family associate, Millroy decided to go along with Albanese on his California trip, "to keep an eye on things." [More...] [Post Your Comments]

Message From Bruce Kulick
From: KULICK.net
HELLO EVERYONE! Hope your July 4th Holiday was safe and fun! I caught a ballgame, and did the Star Spangled Banner again in my heavy Hendrix style for the Marlins vs the Chicago Cubs at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. Went over great! So many people gave me thumbs up when I was in the crowd I felt like a hero! The Marlins lost, but the game was fun to watch. For a while the Marlins let me sit directly behind home plate. It was exciting to come out of the dugout for my performance. Last comment, ballplayers are very much like rock stars! And of course thanks to Dale the Demon (Torborg) and his dad Jeff. The show for Grand Funk on the 4th was a success, and nature behaved, so no thunderstorms. The firework display was very cool as well. Sunrise, FL knew how to celebrate! Of course my anthem went over very well especially on the holiday. Chicago was another park with a July 4th theme, and we did a very powerful show there. The crowd was sad our set was over. Montreal KISS Expo Guests Announcement
From: patdemon@videotron.ca
Here it is, finally, the long-awaited announcementŠwe are very pleased to welcome former KISS manager Bill Aucoin at this year's show. Bill was our guest at our first ever annual expo back in 1999 and we are delighted to once again have him up here! For those of you who didn't know, Bill Aucoin is one of the reasons why KISS is now a legend. He was the band's manager from 1973 to 1982, which means he was there when it was REALLY happening. Along with Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter, he dreamed of taking KISS where no band had gone beforeŠand actually succeeded! Bill was responsible for finding the band's record contract, the mystique behind the makeup, the merchandising and more. Bill was considered by many the 5th KISS( Peter Criss was even once quoted as saying so!) Bill will answer ALL questions and will give us the inside scoop on the KISS, the band members and all the behind-the-scenes stories! As mentioned in the last update, Gordon Gerbert, author of KISS and TELL and KISS and TELL MORE will also be a special guest. He will reveal us some shocking (TRUE?) stories about Ace Frehley! We are also working on having other guests so stay tuned! [Post Your Comments]

Gene Simmons Update: Peter Criss Interviewed For Gene Simmons Tongue #2
From: GeneSimmons.com
Woke up at the crack of dawn to do FOX TV's FOX AND FRIENDS morning show in New York. Then, interviewed PETER CRISS for GENE SIMMONS TONGUE #2 at my hotel. Pete came by with his wife Gigi. He was in great spirits and we, as is usual with us, talked and joked about everything. Also, did an informal foto session together between laughs and jokes. A word of advice: No matter how many of you e mail me to find out what we talked about, what the details were, or what it all means, you'll have to wait for the second issue to come out. Then left for CARSON DALY's show on NBC (also broadcast on the E Channel). On the same show were: ADAM SANDLER and ENRIQUE IGLESIUS. Ran into Sandler first. I'm not sure why, but whenever I run into him, I toss out my fav jokes. It never works, of course. Adam has always been "gentle" with me about my humor. He agreed to talk to me when I get back to LA about doing a piece for GENE SIMMONS TONGUE. Hopefully for the second issue. Likewise with ENRIQUE. Hope to do a piece on him when time and p.r. people permit. Ended the day with GRETA VAN SUSTEREN at FOX TV. The piece went out live and will be rebroadcast at a later date in their "celeb" special.
