If lights stay on he'll rock 'n' roll all night From: thecouriermail.news.com.au by Sean Parnell YES, shoppers, it was Peter Beattie performing – quite literally unplugged – at the end of Queen Street in Brisbane yesterday. With an unnamed couple, who obviously used their Ekka showbags to masquerade as glam rockers, the Premier used a guitar signed by KISS frontman PAUL STANLEY to help promote an upcoming charity event. Mr Beattie cannot play guitar. Joking that he might have to pursue a music career if he could not fix the state's power distribution problems, Mr Beattie noted the irony of posing with an unplugged electric guitar and said he was confident it would work. "I'm very confident that it will by Christmas, and if not somebody will pay a penalty for it," Mr Beattie told the assembled media, confused shoppers and gamblers spilling out of the Treasury Casino. Mr Beattie strummed the guitar, which will be auctioned for charity, in front of photographers and cameramen but refused to sing. "I sing in the shower," he said. "Just ask my neighbours. They asked me to move the shower to the centre of the house." The staged event was in aid of Boardroom Blitz, a charity concert at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in October to benefit the Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland. Several corporate bands have already been confirmed for the event, including Ergon Energy. |
