August 17, 1975 From: Pitstar.com by Brad Burke and John Sharpe It's one of the most talked-about concerts in local history. Pekin police remember it as a night when they found themselves facing a near riot. Promoters remember it as a cautionary tale. Local rockers recall it as possibly the best night of their life. The Aug. 17, 1975, edition of the Journal Star briefly previewed a concert that was to take place that night out in Pekin's Mineral Springs Park. The local municipal band, the story stated, would feature a saxophone soloist for its symphonic show under the stars. By all accounts, it was going to be a nice, pleasant evening in Pekin. What the paper didn't mention was that just up the road at the Pekin High School football stadium, all hell was about to break loose. That very same day, some of the loudest, rudest, most outrageous acts in music history were warming up for a concert headlined by KISS, the leather-clad, makeup-wearing warriors of rock 'n' roll.
